My father & I are doing up a property at the moment and are thinking about getting a wedding license. Kind of alternative wedding venue. Its a water mill on a mile of river, completely private. We are looking into different styles of wedding & civil partnerships etc & offering accommodation (as well as camping - did say alternative didn't I?). Its quite funny because neither dad or I have ever been married so we're clueless! I may have to pick those who have been or are getting married brains in the future.

I'm not getting married (looks the exact opposite at the moment) because my married name would be Hilly Rhodes!

you could just keep your own name, or do double-barrel, we are going to do the latter :)

Any chance your great watermill thing is going to be finished by next August? :P

I keep reading this thread about your wedding and all your ideas are beautiful......I think i'll have my wedding blessed.....

By the way, your wedding rings are gorgeous, really gorgeous!

thank you :)

It is really lovely to get all this positive feedback, it really makes me feel good to know that I am not just full of weird ideas but that people actually think it looks nice :) :-*

I've just noticed the piccie of your wedding rings too-they are beautiful

QUESTION:

Is it unusual in the UK to have the wedding ring engraved with both your names and the date?

When I asked in the local jewelleres how much it would be for two rings, they told me it would be 50 POUND! :o They must have noticed my jaw on the floor, because they started explaining that its so dear because every letter has to be engraved by hand...

Which is crazy. Where I lived in Germany, they just had a machine to do it, you could chose two diferent fonts (block-ish or real curly), and it cost me FIVE EURO to do one ring... which is about three pound. So six for two.

Obviously, once we have decided what we want our rings to say, I will send it to my parents, so they can have them engraved in Germany..

But it made me wonder - is it really so un-common (is that a word?) to engrave rings in England? ?
That is so WEIRD!

It's not uncommon, but they are right in saying that rings have to be engraved by hand.

We were going to have ours done til we were given a priced of £55 each!

O_O

I wonder if I could make a fortune by buying a machine like they had in germany, and then just offer engravings for 15 pound each ring, would still make a profit ?

Anyways, I am in a dilemma.

I got fabric samples of the two fabrics used for my wedding dress, and my boyfriend doesnt like them - I think they are gorgeous!
In the end he said well he doesnt know about that sort of thing anyway and maybe i am right and it is going to look nice once it is a dress and not just a piece of material. but I am really unsure now, I mean, if his first impression was "you know, that looks CHEAP. thats not the sort of material you should have for a WEDDING dress. I dont think this is going to look good." then should I chance it?
what if he DOESNT like the endproduct?

Its linen, and they did use linen and rough cotton back then in medieval times, also linen is going to be a nice thin fabric to dance in in August, unlike some of the heavier materials where I would probably get sweatmarks underneath my arms and collapse at some point due to heatstroke! I think it looks fine, and the colours are just LOVELY.
I would love to go and order it right away.

But I would like my husband to think I look gorgeous on our wedding, and not that I look silly :(

You sure could! :)

What do YOU think of the material? I mean at the end of the day, you have to wear it, and also like you said - it's light and ties in well with your theme. Bought dresses havetons of layers - mine had 6 then 2 top ones!

Go with your gut feeling :)

Almost finished with the antenna-ribbons now! :-) We are only expecting about 15 people to come with cars, the others will probably come by plane or train, so I only got 20 ribbons. In the middle of doing it, I ran out of superglue, typical ::)

Oh, and we went to the "Ham and Cheese" yesterday to go through the menu. We got things 95 percent decided now :-)

Every guest will receive a little menu with three choices with their invitation, and they have to tick what they want to eat.
So here goes:

Starters:

- Prawn Cocktail
- Garlic Mushrooms
- Deep Fried Brie

Main Course:

- Steak (au poivre, Sirloin)
- Cordon Bleu
- Monkfish (filled with crabmeat and parma-ham)

as a vegetarian option either monkfish without the ham, or:

- Vegetarian Lasagne (highly recommended, seems to be really nice)

Desserts:

- Icecream with Chocolate Brownie
- Cheese Platter
- Fresh Fruit Salad

Guests can tick if they want some wine with their meal.

Everyone will get some Prosecco (like a very nice cava) when they arrive.

Later on, they can decide if they want red wine (Cotes du rhione) or white (Pinot Grigio). We arent a 100 percent decided about the wines though. Suggestions?
