sending hugs and cuddles to you and huxley and good luck the at vets. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: glad to hear he is a bit better today. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Well he has had a dose of baytril - I discussed my concerns with the vet - she knew it wasn't best for younger pigs but she said the other drugs hadn't been licensed so she would only be able to give him baytril, but I got some probiotics too. She said it only appears to be on one side of his chest and that we have caught it quickly - he has been munching like a demon still so fingers crossed he will be OK. I've left him at home wioth the bio lapsis in his water bottle and plenrty of hay - he seemd perky enough and only did a couple of sneezes.
Oh definitly Kate, I'm sure many will say the recovery rate is successful especially as you have caught it early too.
With Cuzzy he wasn't displaying actual signs of a URI. He has a temp and that was it but was treated by the vet as having an infection, 2 days later he had head tilt and rolling eyes, I took him back and he was treated for an ear infection although his ears were clear. We think Cuzzy had worse problems such as a stroke and had a disorder in his brain either from birth which is why the medication wasn't successful with him.
Look at Emma's Ralfie he has been so poorly and is still going strong. I'm sure little Huxley will be just fine bless him! :smitten:
Oh thanks Louise and Emma! I mentioned to the vets that he was skinny when we got him (although he isn't now!) and she said it could be that he has been poorly all along, but I don't think he has - he is a proper live wire. Hope he gets better soon!
Thanks everyone, he seems to be a bit grouchy and not his usual lively self, but he is still eating and drinking his pro biotic. Think he has a bit of tummy ache after his jab of antibiotics.
He seems Ok though, he's pootling about, nibbling his food and munching hay between dozing. Since I got home I've only heard a couple of sneezes. Also he has weed in his salad bowl! >
glad huxley is doing a bit better. yes why is it that guinea piggies relieve themselves in their food bowls? i find it most annoying :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: then after they do it they look at you saying well change it i'm not going to eat it now. asending hugs and cuddles to you and huxley. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Fanks! We will keep an eye on him - thinkt he next prob will be tummy ache after his baytril - got to give him 0.2mls twice a day starting tomorrow morning - does that seem a lot?
Now mummy how could you possibly be cross with a gorgeous little guy like Huxley ;D ;D ;D
I've caught Duke a few times just in the nick of time and moved his butt away from food, when they have to go they just go ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
and the look of disgust on his face, WHAT you're moving me > i'm desperate for a wee granny ;D ;D ;D ;D
Is he a good eater then? lots of veggies and fruit?? :smitten:
Ha ha, naughty Duke!
He is scoffing loads Glynis! He had his baytril this evening (poor little man - he swallowed it bravely) then scoffed a leaf from my hand! Then he had a rest, sneezed a bit and then popped out his bedroom and started whizzing round and popcorning! We were delighted! In between he made pit stops at his bowls for a munch! He eats a lot of hay, some veg and cereal, seems to have a good appetite. (And we have moved his salad bowl so no more naughty deposits!)
It sounds like his infection or whatever it is has moved off his chest and its just his nose is a bit snotty, but will still keep him on his baytril. Just hope he gets better now!
Well that's some good news for me to wake up to today :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Yayyyy Huxley :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

so glad huxley is doing better, i have read on here that usually when on baytril or antibiotics piggies are given a probiotic to protect their tummies(damn vets in oz didn't give zoe one till much later!) :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
