@A Guinea Pig asked for a picture of Brillo's bald spot. Sorry it took me a few days to get it!

It grows in slightly and then gets bigger and balder again. This is the smallest it's been for some time. He gets it both sides of his spine but the other side is never as bad and is grown in at the moment. In the beginning (2/3 years ago) the vet thought it may be barbering but his arthritis is such that he wouldn't be able to reach it now and he doesn't have a cage mate just a bar buddy. Another vet who saw it said straight away it was Teddy skin, it used to get thick dry skin in that patch but that's been much better for some time. He's getting to look his age now, poor old boy but he has a huge zest for life still. Red and Brillo egg each other on in the cheeky old piggy stakes.
Thank you. I'm glad you said 'at times', someone else told me if it was Teddy skin it would stay bald and not grow back in, which I didn't think was right. Not that it matters as it doesn't bother him, he's had it for years and despite the common health issues that come with age (6.5) he's a happy piggy. It looks like 'teddy skin' to me as well. My Nerys had it the worst all over her bum end at the biggest extent but Nye was also affected by it; quite badly at times - especially at the end of his life aged 6 years. It is breed specific and is what you are left with after you and your vet have ruled out everything else.

Yes. I learn something new every day. It's good as well that whatever is going on you know you are not alone.I like the way we learn from other people’s experiences here.
