The Goblin Diaries (previously Quitting Smoking)

There's a massive difference in atmosphere in the living room depending on which side of the bars you're looking at, lol.

I had a nightmare last night night that Mourne had escaped, in the usual "of course he can bounce over a foot high fence" Dream logic. But it wasn't just him, he had Bann doing it too 😱 :flag: although I don't know why I was surprised, it's not like Bann's some kind of guinea pig angel lol.

Dreams are weird.

I had one last week that chez got in Stripe's cage and they fought and Stripe was really hurt. Of course Chez could get out of I left the lid open.

That was Dream Me's paranoia, if Mourne could escape from his more secure cage he could easily get into Bann's, and then Bann was right there with him lol. Running around in the living room, the kitchen...

The cages were also in the wrong part of the living room and I'd been sitting in my kitchen when I first spied the escapees, except you can't actually sit in my kitchen, it's not big enough lol.

Chez has lost his taste for coriander so he gets extra cucumber and pepper. Once a week they get either wheatgrass or basil. I get the baby cucumber, too, and Stripe doesn't like green peppers. Stripe gets benebac on his red pepper but his poop is finally a good size and shape so he's going to get back to veg in a couple days.

Chez eats everything but coriander. For a while he was eating the leaves off the stem, but now he just leaves it.

Bless him for deciding that the more expensive luxury peppers are edible 🤣

I know, right? First few times I tried he'd stare at me, apparently querying if I was trying to feed him or poison him lol. I actually thought he was going to do the same thing this morning, so he's surprised me. Which is great because those might be expensive, but single packed organic bell peppers from Tesco are even more expensive and also ginormous.

Mourne has been in a noisy mood all afternoon and it's taking me some time to work out why, but sitting downstairs just now I noticed Mourne screaming at the bars and trying to climb on top of his log tunnel and be biting and shoving his nose as far through the bars as possible, all because Bann's decided to chew on the back corner of the roof of his carrot cottage.

Here's the fun part - he ate all the good stuff months ago. There's nothing left to eat. He knows there's nothing else left.

He also knows how much it's winding Mourne up.

I should be mad. Devious little git. I didn't even know he had it in him!

I mean, if Mourne could take a hint...lol. I remember picking him up after the first lunge 90s in and he didn't even try to fight it, he seemed so very confused as to wtf had just happened. And then as soon as I had him back in his own cage the incident was immediately forgotten and he didn't shut up again for two hours. 😱

I changed pellets again last night. I didn't bother to phase them out because I knew Bann would eat them (he loves the Versele, more than he does the Science Selective they were on) and Mourne was never fussed on the SS either. But he likes the Versele! In fact if Bann gets a treat Mourne has taken a pellet offering quite happily.

Mourne will only take his veggies through the bar of the divider. Bann doesn't care, it doesn't bother him, but it bothers me because I'm ending up trying to feed a lettuce leaf through tiny cage bars, and I frequently have to rescue it because it's dropped on Bann's side of the divider.
So there I am, left hand stretched out for Bann, right hand trying to feed Mourne, and I suddenly realised Bann's nose is right at my fingers. I didn't get chomped on! Well I did actually, but by Mourne. 🤨 who needs thanks and manners, eh?

Mourne insists on being fed through the bars of the divider. Not the outer gross, the divider.

Mourne has a habit of not getting a his food through the divider before his mouth is full and he has to chew.

And this, friends, is how I nearly losty fingers to Bann's teeth after Mourne dropped his lettuce in front of the tunnel Bann's been hiding out in.

Because he knows Mourne drops his food.

And Bann loves his lettuce.

😱

Oh, Bann.

He's been a bit off for a couple of days. He's lost his nose fuzz somehow, but he's not showing other signs of a skin condition so I wondered if he was feeling a bit run down. He kept hiding out and not wanting to come out for food.

And then I came downstairs earlier and he's sitting in the middle of the cage eating hay. He gave me this look like "damn you caught me", not in a guilty kind of way, but "can't be bothered to leave the food pile" type of way. Cheeky git.

And if I needed any further sign he's over the latest sulk, I opened the treat tub earlier. Mourne stopped for a second to work out what the noise was, he's refused to eat any treat at all until last weekend, where he decided he liked pea flakes. So he's learning. Bann did a full 180° turn in one jump. 😂 Mourne still won't eat other treats but Bann doesn't mind, less sharing required.

Sometime last week I went downstairs for snacks at 1am and I woke up Mourne. Bann gave me this look of "...did you have to?!"

I went downstairs to check on them earlier. Near the bottom of the stairs, Bann had turned to face me. He couldn't see me from that distance but he knew I was there, and that's when I realised two things.

One, Mourne was asleep.
Second, the angry glare Bann was shooting my direction said, "Don't you even dare."

:flag:

I crept back upstairs. No need to risk the wrath, lol.

In case anyone ever wonders what I need to put up with on a regular basis, tonight Mourne decided he wanted me to hand feed him a pellet. No biggie, I don't mind, but he takes it and doesn't move so when he drops it so he can chew, it falls on Bann's side of the cage.

🤨

But he's still begging, so I shrug and give him another. Same thing.

...🤨

He did it a third time. So I threw the remainder into the cage like I normally do. He looked so put out, "Human I wanted to do bonding over food stuff why would you treat me like you do when I bite your fingers?!" Geez Mourne, I have no idea. 🤷‍♂️ No idea at all.

That little piggy ……🥰

He pulled a great one yesterday too. He got lettuce, ate most of it, abandoned the rest on his Snugglesafe, wandered off, came back, stood on his Snugglesafe to beg, and when I told him no he got back on four legs in a huff.

One paw landed on the last bit of lettuce and you could see the points where his brain went, "what's that?", looked down, and went "YAY FOOD THANK YOU!"

He was blessed with a great many things, but brains...not so much.
