I always had a feeling there was something wrong .........
I cant get him to the vet untill monday, Do you think he'll be ok untill then ?
Just a min ago I fed him a good, thick hand - feed, about 10 cc that should tide him over untill tomoro, but if hes hungry later I'll hand feed him little bits of romaine lettuce, carrot or cucumber.
I just hope he'll be ok.
Do you think an anastetic will be necessary to pull teeth out, because from what I know, it's not good for them and if he could get them removed with out the anastetic, I would want that. So do you think he'll be able to get them removed without it ?

Thanks,
:rose Alan, George And Charlie :rose

Pigs can be fine with anaesthetic as long as they're healthy, one of mine has had it at least 3 times and he's an old man. Its a risk but not something to worry too much over if there's no other way. Try to get 30mls into him if he's not eating at all. Is there no way of getting him to a vet sooner?
xx

Unfortunatly Monday is the clostest day I can get him to the vet. I thought, maybe he cant live on just pellets, so me and my sister mixed up carrots, cucumber and pea pods in the blender but we had to add some water because the mix was too thick so after we added the water it was just thick enough not to cause dirrohea but watered-down enough to get it sucked up into the syringe. He ate 6cc with ease. I'll give him another dose at ten and in the morning at 10.

Thanks,
:rose Alan, George and Charlie :rose

poor george

i am so sorry to wake up and hear george has lose teeth. i know it is hard for you to see a vet cause you live in ireland, but do the vets have an after hours number you could call?
as for the surgery( i can't spell ananestic my zoe was 3 years old and she had surgery in january this year to have her ovaries and uterus removed and the little cuddle bun is still here with us.
i would continue to syringe feed him food and water, and if your vet has an after hours number i would call them as like others have said the longer you leave it the more risk of infection.
have you been weighing him once a day to see if he has been losing weight? it might be an idea.
give george a hug and a gentle kiss from us and keep us posted:)p:)p:)p and xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

No, over here we dont have weekend calls or emergency calls to vets I dont think. I weighed him and he weighed 1050 grams. That means he lost 50 grams in 4 days, is that OK ?

I'm sorry your piggie has problems with his teeth - hope he gets sorted soon x

you're doing great

the lost of 50 grams is a lot but not too bad, that works out to be about 15.1grams a day which is not to bad. keep an eye on it. keep an eye on him, keep up the syringe feeds and water, keep him comfy and warm and see a vet as soon as you can. you are doing a wonderful job with george and so is your sister. just keep doing what you are doing! sending hugs and healing vibes :)p:)p:)p and x>>x>>x>>

Can guinea pigs get another set of teeth on the top of their mouth pressed up against the ones on the top ?

Can guinea pigs get another set of teeth on the top of their mouth pressed up against the ones on the top ?

thanks a million, I think hemight be in pain and hes not his usual self. He normaly walks around his cage a bit but now he just sits and sleeps ! :( :( :(

poor george

like i said none of my piggies have had teeth porblems, i have PM'd someone who i am hoping can help you.
sending hugs to you, george and the forgotten charlie.:)p:)p:)p
keep us posted and sorry i couldn't help you.:0:0:0

I'm not really very experienced with tooth problems either. In fact its only been recently i've had a piggy with dental problems. If your piggy seems to be getting so much worse I really think you are going to need to see a vet sooner than Monday. Continue to syringe feed so you can be sure he is getting enough food. Vets should have an emergency number on their answerphone message so you can get out of hours care. Even if you don't actually take the piggy to a vet tomorrow I think it would be useful to phone and ask for advice.

:( :( :( problem :( :( :(

I woke to a problem ! His teeth fell out ! I fed him my veggie mix with Vit C pellets from Supa Guinea with it. I am going to try Glynis's method for syringe feeding that she PM'd me and its great ! So do you think he is in pain as his teeth fell out ? I'll still bring him to the vet.

lost teeth

i am sure he is in a little pain, the main worry is infection in the new skin where the teeth were. keep syringe feeding him food and water and weigh him and just keep an eye on him. so glad he is still eating and is happy in himself.
try to keep the food and water room temp as too cold might be very painful. sending hugs and hoping george feels better soon.:rose:rose:rose as guinea pig teeth are always growing george will soon have new chompers to chomp with!

Hi Alan,
Do not panic ,the teeth may have been knocked against something or he may have been chewing the bars of the cage or something. If the teeth are very loose, gently try to ease them out yourself, otherwise you will need to get a vet to do this.Loose teeth will preveent the piggy picking up the food, once they are out they will grow back amazingly quickly, within a week. You may have to syring feed for a day or two.I put some dry mix into a coffee grinder and grind to a fine powder, mix with warm water to a soup that will go in a 1mm or 2ml syringe.Put the syringe into the corner of the mouth not the front.Give aboput 0.3 or 0.4ml at each mouthful. If the gp is not abale to eat by itself at all,you will need to get 30ml or more into it per day.You can also liquidize veggies or buy some jars of organic baby puree. They like the ones with carrot in.While the gp is not eating itself, give a vitimin c supplement.

Maryh (I am NOT guineapigvet)my account has gone haywire in the changeover.

Berrocca

Berrocca is a Vitamin C tablet but how much do i give to George he weighs 1050 grams.

I think it's half a 60mg tablet into the mouth, you can get them from asda in orange flavour and they like to eat these so its no hard getting them in, I'm not positive aboutt he dosage, best waiting for mary to say! xx

What do you sugest I use then ? [is eating poo a good sign of Vit c cause he does do it after I syringe feed him, and yes he has always done it and I do know why he does it.]

poop eating

if george is eating his poop that is the way they get protein not vitamin C.
if george is eating veggies even if it is only in your mush you are syringe feeding him then he should be getting enough vitamin C.
or you can go to the shops and buy vitamin C tablets that have no sugars, chemicals and flavours etc or ask your vet tomorrow (which is today here). good luck howe is george going? sending hugsxx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Well after I nearly cried becuse his teeth fell out, I have fed him 10 mls of food and 10 mls water every 2 hours. I am going to feed him at 12 and then I'm going to get up at 3 in the morning and feed him again [hes sleeping in a 2x4 box with charlie in my bed tonight !]. Hes doing fine other than that really.

Thanks, Alan, George and Charlie.
P.S. I cutand filed his nails today with no problem ! [first time]

Well done love you're doing brilliantly !
awwwwwwww i'm glad you were able to cut the nails, they can be little terrors when doing so, he must trust you lots xxxxxxx

as i said in pm don't worry toofies will grow back, Mary has given you some great advice as well, hopefully with all the ideas for syringing and encouraging him to eat he'll be back to himself within a couple of days or so. Keep up the great feeding love !
Hugs from us both and heaps of healing wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeks for George and give some to Charlie too xxxxxxxxxx

Well the 3 o clock midnight feed went well but I'm about to collapes now ! But the vets is tonight at 7 so I'll keep you updated !

good luck at the vet

good luck at the vets tonight :)p:)p:)p maybe you could have a nanny nap this afternoon.
just think when you have kids and have to get up for the 2.00am feed this is good practice for you, the wife can pretend to be asleep:)):)):))
good for you cutting his clawings, it takes us both to do ours as it is amazing how ticklish they are on their feet:{:{
come on george, be a good boy at the vets!

Went to the vets !

Well I went to the vet ! :(|):(|):(|) He said he'll be fine and he cut his teeh back a bit so when his top teeth grow, they'll grow back in sync :(|):(|):(|) Does anybody have a tip for me about weaning George off the syringe ! He has got quite attatched :Ayociexp121: .

syringe feeding

usually when i syringe feed zoe, she will close her mouth tight and head butt the syringe away when she no longer wants to be syringe fed.
perhaps glynis will have some ideas, though from i understand she syringe feeds duke every day so he is used to the syringe for when he does need it. maybe george loves being fed by you and the comfort it gives him to be in your arms whilst fed:):):) if his teeth only fell out yesterday i would continue the syringe feed up until you see him eating by himself and slowly syringe less even if you continue to just syringe some water to george everyday once he is eating by himself.
i would continue to monitor his weight, then weigh him once a week when he is eating normally as weight lost is the first sign of illness and as piggies are good hiders of illness so continue to weigh him.would love to see pictures of the little darling, hugs and glad all went well at the
vet:)p:)p:)p and you have done a great job with george:rose:rose
