Morning
I’m in a dilema
My boat had surgery 4 weeks ago and he’s I’ll.
Not eating pellets
Not drinking
Eating lettuce and bits of hay
He’s pooing but not certain he’s weeing as much as he should.
I can’t see his willy it’s closed up and his testicles are really swollen.
He’s sleepy and not his normal self
Vets won’t see him is they have no appointments! I’m fuming.
Is there any advice at all😥😥😥😥

I'm sorry to hear that.
weigh him daily and step in with syringe feeding. If he is only nibbling at hay/isn’t eating enough he has likely lost weight and will need help.
he won’t have swollen testicles if he has been neutered but if the area is swollen that far on post surgery, then there is clearly something wrong and the vet really needs to be checking what is going on. I’m not surprised you’re angry with them, I’d be too. I’d get back onto the vet who did the surgery and get quite insistent that he is seen. If they won’t see him, then I’d get to a different vet ASAP.

Thankyou.
I’m actually going to try another local vets and will be removing my dog from their care aswell.
I’m worried that I can’t see his willy😭
I don’t want him in pain.
I read to give him oats which he appears to be eating x

syringe feeding mushed up pellets or critical care recovery is essential if he isn’t eating enough hay and is not maintaining his weight. Feeding oats is fine to help a piggy but It does not and must not replace syringe feeding.
weigh him daily so you can monitor that he is getting enough syringe feeds.

Let us know how you get on with trying another vet. I would still get in touch with the current vet though and make a complaint/get their side of it

Have a look on our vet locator for recommended vets. Hope you get him seen soon and he starts getting better soon.

Hiya guys Thankyou.
Cookie has being to the vets. He thinks he may have an heamatoma. He has no temperature.
So he’s on metacam for a week and I e to take him back if any concerns.
He’s now eating some romaine lettuce and I will try syringe feed him tonight.
I feel better now. Was crying morning as I felt quite helpless xx

I’m so glad you’ve had him seen. I hope he recovers well
Eating lettuce is not going to help him stabilise weight. Only eating sufficient hay will help him. monitor his weight and you may need to syringe feed him multiple times a day- potentially every couple of hours depending on what is happening with his weight

Good he’s perked up. Hopefully he makes a full recovery soon.

That looks like a lot of pellets. Keep to one tablespoon a day. Glad he’s still eating. Remember to weigh him to make sure he’s eating enough 😘

i agree with the above, just keep monitoring his weight daily at the same time,as this is the absoltutley only way you can be certain he is eating enough, you will need to step in with syringe feeding if his weight does drop.ive had one boar 18 months after neutering that devolped a large abcess, sutures were to blame, as he had a reaction to the sutures.my exotic vet stated it could be either a heamatoma or abscess,my boar did not have a temp, but it turned out to be an abscess, maybe just keep monitoring to ensure it does not get bigger, the pain relief will be very helpful.if it is a heamatoma it usually reabsorbs into the body, i hope your piggie gets well soon..

Oh he’s really not himself at all. He’s only being out of his fleece bed once today.
He’s eating all his greens as i basil green beans ect and he’s had some hay and a few pellets but he’s not a happy bunny at all.
I’m taking him back to the vets tomorrow I think😥
Oh and inky his cage mate is so missing him even though they don’t live together😞

He’s on 0.2mls of metacam once daily.
Would I harm him if I gave him an extra dose this evening. I hate to think he’s in any pain x

I can’t tell you what pain meds to give him, only a vet can do that. But what I can say, assuming this is cat metacam is that that dose is so incredibly low that it won’t be doing much if anything. Piggies need pain meds twice per day as they metabolise them within about 12 hours so only giving them once a day means they can spend half the time experiencing pain.

He needs to be eating hay. Eating veg really doesn’t count for much as it is merely a snack and only makes up 15% of the daily food intake in any event. Are you syringe feeding him and weighing him?

Hiya I have just given him another dose and tried my best to syringe feed him but I only managed 1ml. He kept pulling his head away and kind of spitting it out.
He’s currently eating his hay again but his bottom has become harder, red and bigger so he’s definitely going back tomorrow morning😥

Yes I did weigh him this morning but as it was first weigh I won’t know untill tomorrow if he’s lost weight. I think he may need some antibiotics x

yes, the second weigh day will help but what has happened with his weight from his previous weigh in (the routine weekly weigh in) vs this morning?

I’m afraid I’ve never weighed him before😔
Wish
I had now though xx

don’t worry. You know now!
when they are otherwise healthy, you weigh weekly as part of normal routine care. When you have health concerns of the weight has started to drop during the weekly weigh ins, then you switch to weighing daily at the same time each day.
This guide will help you
Weight Monitoring and Management

Come back on to this thread tomorrow and update us with his weight. we can then help with where to go next.
if his weight has dropped, then he is likely going to need more than 1ml. Itll be amounts in excess of 40ml in a 24 hour period (but they sometimes only take a few ml at a time so need to be syringe fed every couple of hours). we can help further when we have more information on his weight. You perhaps could also try giving him another syringe feed tonight just in case he hasn’t eaten enough

Aww I’m sorry to hear this. I recently got my boy neutered and we had some complications after with swelling and him not eating and losing weight.
what’s helped me is quickly getting back to the vets (many visits! 🙄) and getting extra meds. We upped the pain meds added and antibiotic for the swelling and gut meds due to the reduced appetite. Daily weighing also helped and then lots of syringe feeding to ensure he’s eating enough and getting enough fibre.

I hope your boy starts to feel more like himself soon. It’s very stressful isn’t it. Hope your vets are helpful and keep us updated.

I’ve had sleepless nights worrying about this little piggy.
Well he’s going back to the vets at 9.40 today.
He taking his metacam. He seems to
Love it BUT he spits his water/pellets out😭
Is there anything I can add to them to be more appealing. He normally loves his pellets.
He is eating hay and greens though.
I’m now thinking it must be an abscess as he actually is smelly down there aswell.
I’ll see what they say this morning x
