more hugs for Sunny he is a beautiful piggy

I spoke to my vet and there is nothing in the poop that indicates an infection, systemic fungal or anything that could cause this joint problem. Back to see her on Thursday, we will discuss more detailed xrays perhaps or something else we can try.......poor little Sunny :-\ Thank you all for your continued get well wishes :smitten:

hoping all goes well, maybe an ultra sound would help? sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and wishing you luck for thursday at the vets :smitten:
come on sunny the girls are sending you :-* :-* :-*

He is just the same Julie....not as bad as when it first happened but he isnt right :-\
I am going to try a calcium, vitamin D and magnesium supplement.....I spoke to Belinda from Galens Garden and her hunch is a magnesium deficiency and I am getting some herbal stuff from her to strengthen his liver and gall bladder and add trace elements to his diet. She has an interesting article on coccidiosis in rabbits which is the presented illness caused by the eimeria parasite found in Sunnys poop. The antibiotic septrin is the one which will kill the parasite but I want to try a herbal cure first as I am worried about all the drugs being given to him.

I will also liase with the vet and see if she has come up with anything else, she too has been doing research!

It's good that you've got a supportive vet who is willing to find out more. Hope the herbal route works for Sunny :)

Just a quick update. We saw Anne the vet and basically just had a recap, we still do not know why or what caused this. Tests ruled out infection, bacterial and fungal and no apparent osteo disease from xrays. I am currently giving him zolcal which is calcium, vit D and magnesium supplement. Going to do that for 10 days tops.
Also, I am giving him dried meadow herbs, oregano extract, amimmune powder and a few other things from Galens Garden to strengthen his immune system :)
He isnt too bad at the moment, about 80% better but it is frustrating not knowing what the problem was in the first place and if it will re occur! Anne showed me a huge book that Peter Gurney had gifted to her called the 'anatomy of guinea pigs'...she was his vet too and she has been in touch with vets all round the world trying to find out about Sunny's mystery joint swelling' , she is such a wonderful caring vet :smitten:

At least my darling Sunny is still with me and happy which is the most important thing! :)

hoping little sunnny gets better O0 i agree with you about anne, she is an angel 0:) she helped my vet when zoe was sick and had surgery. my vet said that anne was amzing too :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: from what i understand about anne was peter gurney trained her in guinea pigs-this is what maryh told me. sending hugs and healing vibes for sunny :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and the girls send you :-* :-* :-* for all your hard work and frustration. :smitten:

Yes, I think her and Peter had a special relationship in that she is open minded and warm hearted and understands that we love our pets be they as big as a horse or as small as a mouse. Peter recognised this. She listens and always strives to to learn more and always takes her patients seriously. As she told me, in vet school, they don't have to train in rodent health to pass, it is an extra and it takes a special vet to want to train for the extra year or so.....we need more of them O0

She is a fantastic vet, I know she's a way away from us, but it's always worth the journey to see someone like this.

Good luck with the supplements Fiona. How is he seeming in himself?

He is being a cheeky chappie again Julie, have a look in photo gallery....he and Tims are up to no good ;D

Hi Fiona....wish she was here. Anne sounds wonderful! I hope little Sunny feels betters today. I sure hope they get to the root of the problem. Poor little Sunny! Ricky and myself are sending him hugs and kisses from here! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-* :-* My in-laws are in from London, so it's hard to get on line these past few days. I'll check in on Sunny soon! Love to you Fiona!

could you make a clone of anne and send the clone to oz please? hoping sunny is still doing well, sending hugs and prayers :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: but it is a puzzle as to what caused his problem ? ? ? you deserve a big pat on the back for all you did for sunny and the frustrations you went through :smitten:

It is still a puzzle.....we just don't know what caused it and if it will come back ::)

I am lucky with having a great vet, I just hope she doesn't move :o
