Sunny has hurt his leg

Fiona, I went on website after website here in the States to see if I could find anything to help him. I come up with the same info on most websites. Swollen legs and joints can be caused by (most say) lack of vitamin C, arthritis (but it says almost always in older guineas) and walking on wire cages without some kind of bedding. (but I know you use bedding) You don't seem to qualify for any of these problems, although I think you said his body does not absord Vitamin C well. That comes up as the most popular cause of painful swollen joints and legs. It seems to mention this diagnosis on a lot of websites as a main cause. I wish I could find something more. My vet has been out sick for two weeks (don't know why). I thought maybe she may of heard such a thing. She is wonderful. I really hope his meds work. If I see anything on any web site, I will post it immediately. In the meantime, you are doing a wonderful job with Sunny. Taking wonderful care of him while he is ill. He is lucky to have you. Please let us know of his progress. I'll check in tomorrow. Love to you and Sunny............ :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Annie, that is so kind of you to take the trouble to do that for Sunny :smitten: :smitten:

I am lucky that my vet is wonderful too and I am sure we will get to the bottom of it :)

Love to you and Ricky, how is the little man doing? :smitten: :smitten:

how is sunny going today? is he responding to his medication? hoping you all crack what is causing him the problem. then maybe the scotland yard have a few cases for you to solve?   sorry i know sunny being ill is no laughing matter just thought you could do with a smile. get well soon sunny. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

He is about the same but not in as much pain. Not sure if that is due to the painkiller or his joints are not sore now. They are not swollen any more, just a bit stiff.
Here is hoping :)
He appreciates all hugs and cuddles sent his way :smitten: :smitten:

here are some more love and cuddles to keep the little guy topped up and feel free to take some for yourself :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I so glad Sunny's joints have gone back to normal. Boy, it really sounds like it could be arthritis. But he's much to young. I have a book I bought on Gunieas when I got Ricky. And it's the same thing. Painful swollen joints it says is usually arthritis or lack of Vitamin C. You know, I need to go find where I put that book. It has a couple of places, one in Queensland, and one in New Zealand as a place listed in the book for guinea pig resources. You may already have heard of the places. It doesn't give phone numbers. It gives addresses I think. I'm going to go up and look for the book and I'll post later. I don't know if it will be helpful, but it has the address as a resource for guinea pig information. I'm happy that you have a good vet for Sunny. It's important. Alot of vets don't know about Guinea Pigs. Oh, and thanks for asking about Ricky. I'm so happy to report the stupid bandage came off his leg last week and he is 100% back to normal! He's as happy as ever. (so am I). It was a long 4 months with that silly bandage on! (it was changed every other week). But he seems happy again. I don't want to jinx it! Now we have to get little Sunny back to normal. You know, when you said he joints are still a little stiff, that really sounds like arthritis. Did the vet say young guinea pigs can get arthritis? I must admit, I got bad arthritis when I was 29, which is considered young for a human. So I guess It's possible for a GP to develop it young. (but I'm only guessing) I really hope it's nothing serious. Let us know what the vet says. Good luck to you Fiona. And I'll be thinking of Sunny!
:smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-* :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-*

Paws crossed that the test results tomorrow do not show anything nasty. It is very good that the joints are less swollen and Sunny seems more comfortable.Hopefully,it was an infection that is now coming under control.

Lots of love and hugs to you all from The Mob

It would seem like a bad infection which the higher baytril dose is getting under control but I will let you know test results. Thank you to everyone who has helped keep me positive :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Aw thats great! poor little Sunny - I am glad he is getting better, you must have been so worried!

Hi Fiona...just checking in on Sunny. I've been so wrapped up being depressed about Ricky and haven't checked other posts. I just read your last post and I'm glad Sunny feels better. It looks like the medicine may be working! Good job Sunny! Let us know what they told you. I'll check in tomorrow. Love to you and Sunny! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

wondering how sunny is today? did you get the test results back/ sending hugs and cuddles for you and sunny :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and hoping all goes well and the girls send you both :-* :-* :-*

Thanks guys and for your PM Julie :)

Anne phoned me this morning but hadnt had most of the test results back. Fungal had not flagged up so seems unlikely, she said she thought it would have come back first as I requested that especially. There was evidence of a parasite called eimeria, which when present can cause diahorrea, but his poops are fine! Just waiting for the bacteriology to come back now :) He is continuing to do well too so I am thrilled about that :smitten: :smitten:

I'm so glad to hear that Sunny is feeling better. Maybe whatever it was just passed. I hope all Sunnys results come back ok. Let us know what all his results come back! Love to you and to little Sunny! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

We're sending more healing wheeks for Sunny :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

That's great news Fiona! When will you hear about the other tests, hopefully they won't keep you in suspense much longer!
Good boy Sunny, stay on the mend little man :smitten:

Just checking in Fiona...how is Sunny doing today? I hope he is feeling better. You know, with Ricky being sick, my brain has been up my butt! Did you want me to give you those addresses I found in my guinea pig book? I'm not sure how many in England, but they are resources in case you have questions. I have to run out now, but I'll check back later. Love to you and Sunny! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi Fiona. I'm glad Sunny is getting better. Like MaryH says hopefully the test results will be clear xx

He is limping again. The only thing I have changed is I stopped the vitamin C two days ago as he was eating really well again. So the vit C is connected...very very odd.
I still havent had all the test results back yet...will keep you posted on this mystery :-\

Hi Fiona...haven't heard anything on Sunny. How has he been feeling? I hope his limping has stopped. Have you heard on any results yet? Please give Sunny a big kiss from me and Ricky. We want him well! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-* :-* :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Annmarie, Fi said on her thread in pics that Sunny's leg still not good :'(
We have to all get together and will his leg to get better :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

He still isnt right at all :-\ Although he is more comfortable than he was when it first happened, he puts his weight on his tummy rather than his legs and he bunny hops rather than walks. He seems so thhin and small for his age :( Thankfully, my vet is back from hols today, so I will get the results from her as the reception staff promised to phone me back twice and didn't >:(

I see you stopped the Vit C, is it worth another go love ?
Special loves for dear little Sunny from Duke and I :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
(((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) for you too love O0

No, I only stopped it for 2 days and started it again when he seemed to get a bit worse so he is still on it, 50mg a day :-\
