okay another update time. zoe is still around the 900grams mark, i have just started to introduce carrot to her diet and will slowly add more carrot over the next 3 days. so now zoe is eating hay, parsley, celery leaf, bit of carrot and mix. her private area is clean and the celery appears to not have affected her at all.(touching wood). will keep you posted to how she gets on. one question, i was told that brocoli, spinach, silverbeet, celery are all windy veggies and i should not be feeding these to my GP's(even though my girls only get very little) i was told to feed them all sorts of lettuce leaves. i may not know much about GP's but i would have thought as lettuce is made up of mostly water that this would be the last thing you'd feed a GP especially one with soft poops. any advice would be appreciated. thanks for all your help and advice. hugs and cuddles to you and your furbabies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi Choloe,
Sounds like a good idea with the parsley for the vitamin C and the celery leaves - Romaine lettuce I think is Ok (but not iceberg lettuce) and seems to be what mine like best when they are poorly, along with grass..
Is she eating everything you give her?
Hope her tum settles soon!

Oh boy, I've not been on line for a couple of days. I'm sorry Zoe is feeling a bit under the weather. I hope she's better soon. You've been through a lot with Zoe. My vet said under no circumstance should you give a guinea pig carrots. They contain to much sugar for a guinea pig and what she told me was that a lot of guinea's develop diabetes, so she said just to stay away from carrots. She seems to stress it often to me. She said the two best things are parsley and green bell peppers. The peppers especially because Ricky doesn't drink a lot of water so the peppers give him the water he needs. Is Zoe drinking? Boy, you've had a rough time with Zoe. I wish she would just get back to normal soon! You've come this far...it shouldn't be long now before she's back to her little self! Keep us updated Choloe! Love to you and Zoe........

zoe is eating hay, grass, celery leaf, carrot(added this yesterday)parsley, and mix. the vet is getting some oxbow pellets and timothy hay in from queensland. OH and i think for now this will do for zoe, will wait a while and let her tummy settle some more before we add any more veggies to her diet. with all zoe has been through we don't want to overload her tummy and upset it again. in about 4-6 weeks will maybe try to add some more like parsnip, corriander or dill, but for now we are just happy with the progress zoe has made. she is still hovering around the 900grams mark so her weight is stable too. she is eating what we give her though of course not all the grass as we think we give her too much, she is drinking water and we still syringe some water with vitamin C powder in it. if carrots are bad in a few weeks time we may change it to some thing else for now she is only getting a little bit. have tried feeding zoe capsicium( you call it peppers) the green and the yellow, this was during zoe's soft poop stage so am a little wary of them at the moment. may try them again when zoe's tummy has time to settle a bit longer. thanks for all your inquires and advice. will keep you posted on how zoe is doing. and thank you all for your help, and support through zoe's illness, surgery and soft poops. sending many thanks and hugs and cuddles to you and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

thats really good O0 :) i'm soo pleased for you :) yeah, take it a bit at a time, and she'll be back to normal in no time! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: well done you and zoe, what a fighter bless her! :smitten: :smitten:

The vet actually told me that the red ones are better for them then the green ones! But I cut up some red peppers and Ricky ate everything in the bowl and left every piece of red pepper! So it's back to green! (I perfer the red ones myself!)

we hate them all, green, red and yellow, but zoe loved the yellow ones but as they gave her soft poops she will have to wait a while before she gets another taste.
also zoe's poops are NORMAL, we have stopped adding things to her diet as we didn't want to upset her tummy again. she has been through a lot and we wanted her tummy to settle further before we chop and change things again. she is eating grass, hay, celery leaf, mix, and parley, when the vet gets the oxbows in we will introduce this slowly too. so while zoe can eat these things we will let zoe continue on these things and give her time to settle before we try changing her diet slowly. she has come so far so don't want to jinx it. thanks again for all your replies. ricky sounds so much like jessie-jessie is our junk food piggy, she won't eat anything that is good for her except hay and grass. still persisting with her though. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: thanks again everyone. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

have heard from maryh's vet concerning zoe, have no idea what she means but here is her message.
Thank you for the update - glad she is making progress - she is now quite a celebrity worldwide! Anne and Andy

so thanks again to maryh, dr taylor and andy for helping us and our vet with zoe! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

as you know had zoe on grass, oaten hay, parsley, mix, celery leaf and carrot. well little miss decided to have soft poops again so have taken the carrot out and the mix. then she decided to have the soft poops again so i have put little miss back onto grass and hay. zoe is in a huff and has her rump facing me. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: so will do this for 3 days and slowly start adding things to her diet again. giving the carrot and celery and mix a miss. she is still hovering around 900grams and is drinking water. hopefully the oxbow pellets(not that zoe and jessie eat pellets) and timothy hay will come in soon and we can try her on that VERY slowly! will keep you posted! thanks again to everyone. hugs and cuddles to you all from me, zoe and the girls. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Oh poor Zoe! Do you think its the warm weather maybe upsetting her tum?

Fingers crossed she gets better again soon!

(BTW, I didn't know you could give carrot to piggies due to the sugar content - is that true? Mine have it almost every day ... :( )

Katiep,

There is not much sugar content in carrot, and if they are given moderate amounts and not everyday, they are actually good for them. My pigs get carrots and I have no problem with that.Mine are not so keen on the old carrots,bu they love the young carrots and the carrot tops. They also like chanteroy carrots.

zoe has been doing normal poops today! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: so am going to go slowly than before and so add one thing at a time to her diet. her weight is still the same which is good. so will keep her on grass and hay for now and in 3-5 days time add a veggie. thanks again for all your well wishes and advice. hugs and cuddles to you and your furbabies :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and zoe saids :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* thanks everyone!

Been off line a few days with a terrible flu or virus. Not sure which, but it was nasty! Anyway, I just checked in to see how Zoe is. Glad to here her poops are back to normal. It's been a long battle for her. I hope she's back to normal soon. Keep us informed. She sure is a tough little guinea pig!! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

just thought i would give you a zoe update, as suggested by lydia we had zoe on grass and hay for 5 days and then slowly added parsley, cauliflower and the soft poops returned so back onto hay and grass for 2 days, then added slowly parsley, celery leaf, mix, carrot and the soft poops returned, so back to hay and grass and so far she is getting hay, grass, parsley, mix and the occassional parsnip. we have also removed the cooling racks she has been on since october cause she was wetting herslef and her hair around her private area was fallen out and it was swollen and red. we removed it as it looked uncomfortable and was scared she would get sore feet or bumble foot.

we won't add anything to her diet now until the oxbow products come in and will slowly add these and see how she goes. she is still getting fed 4-6 times a day and gets some preboiled water via syringe with vitamin C powder in it even though she is drinking water. so far her poops are normal. hoping they stay that way too. you can add something and bam back to soft poops. will keep you posted. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and from the girls :-* :-* :-*

okay, one day zoe's poops are normal, the next they are soft. tried her on a bit of bananna in the skin today as i had read it was good for soft poops but so far it hasn't done anything. zoe has had bananna before but never the skin. she gets weighed 2-4 times a week and is still hovering around the 900grams mark. she is drinking normally, and seems happy in herself. so for now she is eating grass, hay, parsley and a bit of narnie in the skin-this once a day. will keep you posted. :smitten: :smitten:
