hello,
have heard from andy who works with maryh's vet in the UK on advice from maryh i emailed him. i have put up a new post in foods. any help would be appreciated as i don't want to upset zoe's little tummy again. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: thanks for all your advice and well wishes. bless you all and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Awww so glad things are looking up for Zoe must be a huge relief x :smitten:

well today i added a little cauliflower to zoe's grass and hay diet, so far (touching wood ) all is going well. bought a bale of hay today-oaten and it is so dead and dry looking hoping it is safe for the girls. :-\ :-\ :-\ we tried about 7 fodder stores, some were the same others worse and 1 didn't have any hay. it is due to this drought we are in, the last decent rain we had was in october. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: since then we have only had annoying drizzle. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: as for zoe's weight she hasn't gained nor lost since weighed at the vet. about 8 days ago weighed at the vet she was 0. 875grams she is now 0.900grams cause there is the difference in the scales etc. this damn hay problem is only going to get worse with the lack of rain. zoe is her usual laid back self and happy in herself.thanks for all your replies and advice. hugs and cuddles to you and your furbabies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

hello went to feed zoe just now and she had a soft poop again, green and smelly. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:we have no idea whether it was due to the small amount of cauilflower or due to the dried dead looking hay we have been forced to feed them. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:a going back to the vet tomorrow to see where we go from here. for now she is back on a grass/hay diet. will keep you posted. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

okay, had zoe on hay and grass for 24 hours-not that she ate much grass. have just tried her with a little bit of parsley. will see how she goes. couldn't get her to the vet today and she was booked up and had an emergency. if the parsley gives zoe soft poops again will try and get zoe into the vet tomorrow. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and zoe is not drinking a lot she is drinking normally. :-* :-* :-*

awww i'm sorry that she's back to soft poops again. do you think it's because you added anything to her diet? :-\
are you seeing a vet? hope all goes well (((hugs))) :smitten:

yes have spoken to vet concerning zoe and her poops. she was on hay/grass diet for 5 days and yesterday as directed we added a teeny bit of veggie. after 2 lots of this veggie the soft poops came back. so went back to grass and hay diet but won't eat much grass. as for the vet, she wants to take some blood from zoe's jugular vein with no sedative. which there is no way this will happen as we feel zoe has been through enough. will pop into the vet tomorrow if soft poops return again for either a probiotic or a jessie poop switch. will keep you posted. hugs and cuddles to you and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

zoe has had 3 teeny bits of parsley and so far (touching wood, everything crossed praying madly) her bottom has been cleaned. as she is on a grass and hay diet we feed her 4 times a day. if all goes well with the parsley may try corriander, later today. but it all depends on how she goes.
just wondering have 2 GP's and 1 lop ear bunny, has anyone bought the 425gram bag of timothy hay from oxbow and if so how long does it last you? will keep you posted on zoe. thanks for all your replies and advice. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

here is a copy of the latest communication with zoe's vet.
Hey mary sorry but i have been away on hols Yeah for me and not so good for yourself but I hear Lydia has been advsiing you well.
Given the poor response to cauliflower i would suggest that you staick to hte hay diet for now On monday i will get someone onto that diet from specialised animal nutrition and get it in for you. I would think we will order 1/2 a case of adult cavy cuisine and 1/2a case of timothy hay to start. so we will get asap.
in meantime can you make a list for me of Zoes favorites so I can look into pros and cons of said items for her and if you are going to introduce something new 1 at a time and then watch carefully. I think she is most ikely to loose weight with loose faeces rather than by being limited to hay. If faeces are solid on hay then I think that she does not need repopulation but if the bowel has een affected by either the hormonal issues associated with the cystic ovaries or the antibiotics then I think we need a subsatntial recovery period for the mucosa in the bowel to regenerate and become normal
The dogs I have with inflammatory bowel disease and food allergy typically need 6 months ish of stability before I can start to reintroduce varieties of food to allow recovery of the mucosal layers in the bowel.I know she is not a dog but the sAME rules apply to tissue healing in all animals.
Best wishes Kirsty

so will wait and see what happens, zoe is going alright at present with the grass, hay and parsley. i have asked the vet not to worry about the pellets as zoe isn't a great lover of them. none of my babies have had timothy hay, but i am hoping it will help zoe's tummy. last 3-5 days have been weighing zoe and she has stayed at 2 pounds or 900 grams. will keep you posted. hugs and cuddles to you and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

update on zoe; zoe was going well then stupid me when out and bought this mix, made up of grass, hay and chaff. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: which i gave her some friday, saturday and today, well today zoe's poops have gone a bit soft again. i really thought the mix would have done zoe no harm but wrong again. zoe whom i have been weighing all week is still 2lbs or 900grams. so i have now have taken her of the mix and will continue with grass, hay, parsley and if poops alright will add a bit of celery tomorrow. i might pop into the vet and get some probiotics to help zoe's tummy, but then if i put the probiotic into zoe's drinking water where would i put the vitamin C supplement? zoe is sleeping and jessie is having a drink lying down. been a stinker today over 100F and warmer tomorrow.
hugs and cuddles to your babies :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: thanks for your replies and advice. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Put the vitimin c and probiotic in a syringe, never put anything in the drinking water, this is dangerous.

As the weather isso hot,it could be affecting Zoe,gps cannot stand very hot weather.Give her loads of water via syringe as she could easily get dehydrated.

zoe and jessie and faline the bunny are all inside and they have a fan on them to keep them cool. same as in winter they have a heater to warm the room. as for syringing the vitamin C and the probiotics guess i could make it in a jug and give it to her. but surely it is dangerous to give her both. why is it dangerous to put these in the water bottle? as she does drink from her bottle. be glad to take the divider down so zoe and jessie can be together again but can't while zoe is on a hay, grass diet. if zoe's poops comtinue soft will get some probiotics from vet, but so far they have improved. will discontinue the mix and see if that helps. strange that it took 3 days to affect her. thanks for the advice. hugs and cuddles to you and your fur babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

how's she doing now? hope she's getting there (hugs) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

have taken zoe of the mix, and she is on hay, grass and parsley, have NOT seen a soft poop but her private area has been messy-not a lot just a tad. have started today to introduce a teeny bit of celery to her diet. was too hot to go out today though i had to go piggy food shopping it is 100F here today-3rd day in a row. going to hot again tomorrow but cool change hopefully by lunch time tomorrow. so i have sent vet an email about a probiotic, and to question why it takes 3 days for something to upset zoe's tummy? like with the cauliflower it took 3 days for her poops to go soft and with the mix it took 3 days again. if nothing else zoe is consistent. will keep you posted, zoe is eating , drinking and though quiet and laying down due to the heat is happy in herself. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Mary you're doing so well with her :smitten: :smitten:
Gee i wish we could all suggest something that didn't upset her tummy :-\ :-\ :-\
I thought you were hot again today i checked the map at work and went ARGHHHH :o :o :o
The change is supposed to get you tomorrow don't worry i'll have fingers and paws crossed for you O0
Does the furbabies like to cuddle up to frozen bottles of water to keep cool? i know of other who do that.. :)
Hope you get an answer re your probiotics O0
Loves to you all from us :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

you're doing so well keep up the good work O0 O0 (((hugs for you and Zoe)))) come on little girl! you can do it! :smitten: :smitten:

You're doing really well :smitten: have you tried carrot? Ralfie has been ok with that, fingers crossed no more runny poops O0 xxxxx

an update on zoe, haven't seen any soft poops but sometimes her private area is dirty. have been weighing her and she is stable on 900grams. as for the hay we have tried meadow,(zoe got too many grass seeds in her eyes) oaten(you call it oat) and lucerne. these are the only 3 available here in south oz! our vet is getting some oxbow timothy hay in for us and the pellets(though zoe hates pellets) so we will try her on the timothy when they arrive. have never heard of mountain hay and the others that have been mentioned on the forums).
stupid me went and bought some mix from a petshop, it had grass, hay and chaff, zoe loved it and tucked into it, after 3 days though we saw no soft poops her private area was a bit dirty which we took as a sign that maybe she either had or was getting soft poops. so for now she is on grass, hay, parsley and celery. do you think we should try the mix again? or put her on to a probiotic? kristen the vet seems to think due to zoe's antibiotics, drugs in the surgery and her hormones it will take anywhere up to 6 months for zoe's tummy to settle. we want to do right by zoe so any help you can offer would be great! so sorry for bothering you all the time! as for carrot was told to feed in moderation as can cause liver problems. thanking you in advance. hugs and cuddles. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Mary that's great news that the vets are getting the hay and pellets in O0 you've done well O0 O0 O0
I let Duke have carrot daily but it's only about 2" long and i cut it open for him to eat the middle part first as that is what he prefers ::) If you give Zoe the baby carrots with the tops i'd only give one or two small ones a day... but somebody else may advise differently :-\ The only prob i've had with carrots is it can break toofies >:(
I agree tho the fact she's had so many drugs etc... her tummy is probably really haywire :D :D so surely the probiotics would to stabalise it earlier :)
Best of luck love O0 :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
How's she going on the parsley and other herbs?
Yeah we can only get the Timothy Western Hay i think it is here in Victoria, so it will be interesting to see what you guys get.
Loves to you all :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi :) i agree with Glynis about the medication, antibiotics are a big cause of off tummy's on here :( but you're doing well and it's great they're getting the hay and pellets in for you O0 as for carrot i have pm'd you lol but i give it every other day but they only get about a small/medium sized one each a week, i cut it into slices too. i like to give small portions of each veg but a lot of different veg each day :) its also good that her weight is stable O0 Ralfie lost about 60g in a week with his poorly tum :( so it must show something that she isnt losing weight, hope she continues to improve and the ha and pellets do her good xxxxxx

yeah, antibiotics kill off the bad bacteria, but also some of the good unfortunately. mimi's just been put on baytril, so i've ordered some probiotic to give her, to repopulate the gut with good bacteria, have you tried probiotics with her? ?
It's good they're getting the hay and pellets O0 as for carrot, a bit in moderation is ok O0 (( hugs for you and zoe)) come on zoe darling, your such a fighter! :-* :-* :-* :-*

there have been no soft poops that we could see, but zoe's private area has been a tad dirty. does this mean she has had soft poops or on the verge on having soft poops? could some one please advice. thanks in advance, will keep you all posted. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Silly question maybe but you said that you have not found any soft poos but that she has a dirty bottom, have you found any poos at all?

not that i have seen any, but when i clean her out her poops are normal looking, though greenish but that is not to say she hasn't eaten the soft ones. think i'll skip breakfast after writing that. and the only stupid question is the one not asked. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

zoe is going the same, her weight is still hovering around the 2lbs or 900grams mark. her private area does get a tad dirty but have not seen any poops soft or hard. she is eating and drinking and wanting to get to be with jessie but as zoe is on strict diet that won't be happening anytime soon. friday we get to add another veggie, thought we'd go with carrot something that isn't green. when our vet gets the timothy hay and pellets, guess we will have to slowly introduce it to zoe, jessie and faline, so as not to upset their tummies. can't do half and half as they don't eat pellets at all at the moment. it is not their favourite thing. faline however loves pellets. will keep you posted on zoe. hugs and cuddles to all who have replied and helped. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

awwww soo glad to hear she's doing ok O0 well done you! :-* :-* :-* :-*
