Squeaking when going to bathroom

Martin update again! So he's been fine the last few weeks. Only heard a few sporadic whines but other than that he's been happy enough...until we got back from a weekend away. Our lovely piggy sitter who comes to feed them twice a day saud he'd been fine, up on his back legs excited for breakfast until Monday morning where he looked subdued and hadn't eaten all his dinner from the night before. We noticed some really small poops, some tear shaped and he hadn't been interested in dinner, so of course, panic mode! He squealed real bad a few times too peeing.
He seemed to calm down again after we were back a few hours and ate his next meal fine and delved straight into his hay. He's eaten fine today and poops look normal again but some whining when weeing a few times. I was going to start the antibiotics but then he perked up again
Our vets have referred him to a specialist in Lytham, which is an hour away and not sure when we will get to see them.
We have been weighing him but not sure if our scales are the best. Ours have him at 1.4kg and the vets at 1.2kg so it's difficult to tell if he's lost weight (although he has lost weight from weigh ins at the vets but they said that probably because we took him off nuggets)
I don't know whether to give him some nuggets in the meantime as he's asking for them and want him to eat but worried about the calcium (although taking him off for a month doesn't seem to have done anything)
It's so exhausting seeing him in pain and not being able to help, especially when it seems to flare up when we go away. Nothing we do seems to help!
Would be nice to hear some positive stories whilst we wait for the specialist. It's really upsetting my partner too. Losing our first piggy Kurt absolutely devastated us.
Sorry for the rant!

If you weigh consistently on your scales you will be able to see if he's loosing weight. 200g is a big difference mind, you may need some different scales. But even on scales that weigh that different as long as they weigh the same difference each time you will be able to see if it goes up or down.

The fact he has had a flare up while you've been away does sound like it could potentially be IC.

With pellets I now give mine as a treat. So hand feed small amounts, it seems to aggravate Nancy in big amounts.

Unfortunately I don't have a good story as Nancy has been squeaking in pain since April. We are going for an op to remove ovaries incase her small cysts are making things worse.

What meds is Martin currently on?

Sorry to hear about Nancy sending lots of healing vibes! It's so frustrating isn't it! Thankfully the specialist got back to us today and he's booked in for Monday. She said she thought it sounded like stones and that they should have done an x-ray.
Keeping fingers crossed the specialist can help.

That's good you have an appointment for monday. Has your piggie still not had a scan? Thought he had one already that didn't show them. Was it an ultrasound he had?

Yeah, an ultrasound. The specialist said they often don't show up on them. It's a long way for him to go but just hoping he's ok over the weekend and gets a good look over. Terrified he might have to have surgery.

My vet uses x-ray for stones. Nancy went twice for x-ray because she has the symptoms but no stones. So possible little Martin doesn't have them but they are more likely to be missed on an ultrasound I believe.

Oh man. He's peeing blood today. Appointment not until Monday. Should I be pushing for an earlier one? So upset
I would ring the minute the vet opens in the morning to try and get one. But don't panic, it may not be a stone. But I would try and get an earlier one.

I will, though I'm not sure how likely it is. First apt with the specialist was Monday. I am panicking a bit as I've never seen it so bloody and he has been wailing a lot the last few days.
Trying to console myself that when he's not weeing he is running around whealing and seems to be normal.

It can be such a helpless feeling when your pet is ill. Are they planning on a scan on Monday or is it just the consultation?

Not sure. They've been sent all the files. I'll ring them again in the morning. It's just so horrible isn't it? He's such a sweet boy and I feel so helpless

I would ring as soon as they open as it massively increases a chance of an appointment. I know how I hate having to wait for an appointment when they are unwell.

Update: Martin went to the specialist this morning and has been anaesthetised for an x-ray. X-ray found multiple stones and they've asked if they can operate whilst he's under now. Absolutely terrified. Send good vibes to my boy x

Good luck little Martin. Understandable to be anxious but with him being with a specialist he is in good hands. Let me know how he does.

Good luck Martin. Sending lots of healing vibes ❤️❤️

Best of luck, two of my boys had bladder stones too. ❤
It sounds like he's in very good hands with the specialist.

Urgh. Still not heard anything. Tried ringing and they said somebody would ring back but they haven't and it's closed now. This is torture. Just want to snuggle my boy 😭
Oh no. Did they say they would keep him in overnight?

Yes but they said they'd update us too and haven't. I mean I would have liked to have known if hes made it out of surgery ok. Wahhh. My poor Len is looking really confused too, like where's the other guy gone?

Aw that's really hard. I would have wanted him home. And they definitely should have told you how surgery went! That's awful communication

Oh no I’m so sorry they’ve not been in touch. Do they have an out of hours number you can call?

That’s awful that no one has communicated anything to you. I’m sure he’s ok though. A stern call in the morning would be in order I think.

We tried calling earlier and they said the vet was doing the rounds and would call. No call. We called the out of hours and the out of hours vet said they didn't know as they weren't at the surgery and just said wait until the morning! My partner was like can you let us know if he survived the surgery and the guy just said, well I presume so! I've never had this kind of treatment from a vets before, it's horrible

That is utterly appalling. Utterly utterly appalling. I am so so sorry. Surely the vet could ring the hospital where I assume a vet nurse would be to find out.

He just said they would call in the morning. No apology, nothing. The worst thing is, it's over an hour away. Don't even know whether to try and prepare his cage, get fresh bedding ready. I'm being stupidly superstitious, like no don't do that because it'll make me even sadder if it's bad news. Both of us work full time too, so could really do with knowing if we have to take time off.

It's so unacceptable to leave you not knowing how he is. I'm so sorry. It's just basic communication.

Oh dear, that's dreadful service.
I really hope he's OK, and try not to worry too much- no news is good news, but you certainly should have heard from the vets.

Oh no I’m so sorry. Sending you massive hugs. I was in the same position last year with my Percy. Some piggies just don’t recover well from anaesthetics. You did absolutely everything you could. Popcorn pain free Martin. ❤️
