Sorry Karen didn't mean to imply I was having a go at anyone, just meant I was going to be on the phone a lot again! Sorry for any misunderstanding, I quite understand that it could take quite some time to sort Snow out!

Thats OK, I wasn't sure, didn't think you were, just checking you weren't under any illusions :)

Oh no, under no illusions whatsoever! My brain is just "mush" trying to juggle work, kids, hubby abroad and sick piggy!

Hi,

The Sudafed I use is the one formulated for children.I give 0.3 mls per day.Normally just the one dose will sort the problem. It is good for allergy type snuffles.A few years ago I had a boar with an "asthma" type problem,Sudafed saved his life once.I came home to find him gasping and limp, within 20 minutes of the Sudafed he was runnung around and eating. Yes it does contain a small amount of sucrose which I try to avoid both in products for myself and my pigs, but I feel we cannot be fanatical about these things, especially if you know they work well.I haave not needed to use sudafed for a long time now,but I always keep a bottle in.I do not know what Bisolven contains as I have not used it for years.I had a piggy suffer a severe reaction to it once so I stopped using it.

Thanks Mary, it's always good to be prepared and with two daughters I've usually got some Sudafed in the cupboard for emergencies!

Thanks for that Mary can you post the symptoms of the severe reaction please because that would be useful too :) How do you know it was due to the Bisolvon? I use Sudafed too in emergencies :) Sorry, but I am fanatical about them :)

Just a quick update following Snowy's visit to a local rodentologist (trained and recommended by Vedra) on Saturday. Snowy is still not eating by himself, but he loves his ground Cavy Cuisine via syringe, and has put on a tiny bit of weight. Middle of last week he lost what I thought was part of a molar, turns out it was the whole molar! Diana checked him over and was pleased with his other molars, only one needed a tiny trim and she cut one of his lower incisors, which had grown amazingly in just a week. The little lad was very good, but he wasn't too impressed by the experience! We have an appointment for another check up in a fortnight.

His front wasn't quite so wet today, so hopefully that means his mouth is now more comfortable to shut. Having spoken to Vedra last week she said it may be several weeks before Snowy is able to/wants to eat by himself, until then we need to keep up the syringe feeding.

I have now put all three boys back in their C&C cage together and it is lovely to see Snowy snuggled up with either Herbie or Curly, he certainly seems happier. The whole experience has had a major impact on his character. He's always got on well with other piggies but was never a "person" pig. However, he now loves sitting on my lap, takes the syringe like a dream and will sit for hours having his chin scratched, which is amazing when you think how sore his little mouth has been.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to wish Snowy well both on the forum and via pm, we really appreciate it. Will keep you posted.

Aw I'm glad he's back with his friends. Keeping my fingers crossed he starts wanting to eat :) it sounds promising! You're doing a great job with him, well done. Get well soon Snowy

I am so glad Snowy is improving. What an amazing job you are doing!

Thanks guys, I hope you all know how special you all are - it is great being able to come on here and "talk" piggy problems and get help and ideas from people who understand what we are going through O0.

Managed to slot one strand of Readigrass into Snowy's mouth this morning and he sat chewing it :) mind you, he looked at me as if to say "what the ............. are you trying to do to me! ;D

1st feeding round of the day done, better get some office work done now - thank goodness I work from home!

That's great news that he's doing better, he's a lucky chap to have you as his carer! It's such hard work and so time consuming when they're ill isn't it, it seems to be never ending, but it sounds like there might be a light at the end of the tunnel! It's great news about the local rodentologist as well :)

If Snowy has done nothing else he has put you in touch with Diana :) Perhaps someone should tell Jacky about her? Then she can refer people :)

We are due to see Diana again in a fortnights time and assuming that goes well I will certainly be spreading the word! Will drop Jacky and Angela an email in due course.

Just thought I would let you all know that after many ups and downs over the past few weeks we had to make the agonising decision to have Snowy PTS this afternoon :'(.

Up until today he has been actively taking food from a syringe, including grass and sliced veggies, however, he has never been able to eat for himself since this episode began at the beginning of January. This morning, however, he didn't come over to see me when I went into the playroom and he was very reluctant to take any food. He took himself off under his tunnel and snuggled up with his teddy, even Herbie and Curly kept their distance. After trying unsuccessfully all day to get him to take an interest in his food and surroundings I made the heartbreaking decision to take him to the vets to help him on his way.

Run free little man, have fun with all your friends at Rainbow Bridge and thank you for being such a special little piggy 0:)

So sorry to hear about Snowy, especially after all the hand-feeding and everything, you get so much closer to them. A difficult decision to have to make for anyone.

Really sorry and thinking of you
