'Kokosbusserl' is Austrian German for 'coconut kisses', or macaroons made with desiccated coconut. :) Everybody has their own favourites and recipes - there are hundreds of them with their own regional, family or personal tweaks in the German speaking countries during advent and for Christmas. I like coconut macaroons best with chopped candied ginger, lime zest and a bit of dark chocolate glaze over the top. :)

But you can happily spend hours, tasting, comparing and exchanging recipes!

The gingerbread guinea pigs are delicious @Wiebke I don't suppose you would mind sharing your recipe?

I have never made a secret that I am using the BBC Good Food gingerbread men recipe. I firm up the dough in flattened half batches in the fridge for 1-2 hours before rolling out to 5mm thickness. When baking a double recipe batch, I put any trays with cut piggies that are not going directly in the oven back in the fridge together with the unworked dough pieces to keep the dough as cool as possible. It makes for crisper edges. Leave at least an inch between the cut out shapes on the tray. Since my oven is showing signs of a hard working life, I have to adjust baking times and go by eye, specially with more than one tray on the go. The BBC recipe yields ca 25 of my piggies, so I sold about 50 of them at the fair.

As long as you are not grossly overbaking or overworking them, this is a very reliable recipe. :)

Just lightly flour the surface before rolling out and place some plastic foil over the dough to prevent the rolling pin from sticking.

Have started a birth announcement. I have 2 to do. My son and his partner are having twins!😍😍

I know it looks like a blue pig but when it's finished it's a blue hippo. The black blob to the right of the hippo is the foot of a panda.

Realised I never mentioned that I finally finished the dress. It was my back up for the Dressmakers ball after the 70s evening gown pattern was working up far too big and I didn't have enough time to try tackling making it smaller 😂 love it though, it was so comfortable

And on that note here is the almost finished Christmas dress. This was pre hemming of sleeves and skirt (ran out of bobbin thread 3/4 way round that skirt and was sewing with air for a while before I noticed 🤦‍♀️). Not loving it but made a few mistakes and the waist is just sitting too high for my natural waist now. Still it's wearable and a learning curve.

Here's the crosstitch I'm working on it's supposed to be a Christmas present for my dad who lives on s canal boat. The pattern has a terracotta pot of roses and a boaty pattern at the bottom but I'll be lucky if I finish the daffodils in time for Christmas.20241212_193909.webp
