Rose has not been her energetic self the last couple of days and I had noticed a bit of a limp. I was hoping it would improve over night but she hadn’t really moved from her bed. She also had a bit of a damp undercarriage from where she has sat in her wee. I have taken her to the vets who think it is a sprain and that sh should recover. She has been prescribed some metacam and I have given her a bum bath and a couple of pieces of carrot for being so brave. Rose is absolutely gorgeous. I hope she gets well soon .

Oh gorgeous girlie. Let’s hope the metacam does the trick and soon gets her moving around as normal. She is such a sweet looking girl.

All the best for her recovery! Depending on the severity, how lively Rose is and where the sprain has occurred (any joint from the toes to the hip/shoulder joint), it can take a few days to a few weeks to completely heal.

It is a fairly common issue in active piggies when they land badly on one leg during a popcorn or jump. ;)

Rose thanks you all for the well wishes. She had a funny moment at the vets. She wouldn’t move so the vet could see her limp so I tried to encourage her with some parsley which she refused to budge for. So I got the parsley bag out and rustled it at the far end of the table and she bolted straight into it right up to her hips! Still didn’t see the limp as she went across the table in a blur!

Not that bad a sprain then, just a lot of feeling sorry for herself!

Healing wheeks for Rose, hopefully its nothing serious if she'll still sprint for food! Sounds like you've got it all covered taking her to the vets and getting some metacam, hope she makes a quick recovery x

Feel better soon Rose! Hadley empathizes, she has a sore hind leg too that is finally starting to improve after five or so days of resting and feeling sorry for herself!

Poor Rose. Her leg is still sore and is resting it. She is eating well and pooping well but is very quiet. It’s sad to see as she is the most excitable piggy and friendliest. The vet thinks it’s a sprain and she is on metacam...which she loves! As she is not mobile she has a bit of a damp bum and has regular bum baths. If she is no better this week I will take her back to the vet.
Any advice on helping her is great fully received!

My Poppy (sadly passed earlier this year) had a really bad hind leg sprain/ligament injury that took a few weeks to heal.

Thankyou as it’s my first piggies and first sprain I am just worried how long it will take! I remember spraining my own ankle as a footballer and it took weeks to heal!

Poppy ended up back for more xrays after a couple of weeks but it showed nothing serious so we just persisted with metacam and eventually she went back to full weight bearing, but she had an ample covering of body fat that must have put extra pressure on those little legs!

I’m still worried about Rose and will take her to the vets on Saturday. I was thinking about the cold weather next week and wether I should bring her in to the house and make her a recovery area that will be warmer especially if she still has a damp bottom. The other girls will be ok in their insulated shed with plenty of hay and snuggle safes. Just wondering if it is better for Rose to be inside while she heals.
All advice welcome.

Totally see why you are questioning bringing her in - in terms of her recovery it may help, but I am not sure separating them would be wise....could you bring all three in?

That was one of my worries separating Rose from the others. It’s an option. I will have to think about that. Part of the problem is I am working away and I am trying to make things as easy as possible for the family!

Been back to the vets with Rose is struggling on both back legs. She is so brave at the vets. She had both legs inspected and had feeling in both. She managed to bunny hop for some strategically placed parsley. X-ray booked in for Monday.

Sorry to hear poor Rose is still having problems.
Hope the x-ray can give a proper idea of what’s wrong.

Are you syringe feeding to help boost her weight?

No I wasn’t as she looked like she was eating ok. Always eating hay. Eating all her personally served veggies. I think maybe she is not having as many nuggets. Do you think I should syringe feed? If so mushed pellets?
