Rose - Poorly Leg

If her weight is dropping it’s usually advised to step in with some syringe feeding.
You could also offer her mashed banana - I mixed some in with the Critical Care for Micah and he loved it so much he wouldn’t let go of the syringe.
I also put some of the mix into a ramekin dish for him to help himself.
Grated sweet potato and oats is also good as a weight booster

My pleasure.
I just pass on the advice I was given when I’ve had sick piggies.
Will be keeping you and Rose in my thoughts

I agree. It sounds as if she has lost quite a bit. She is eating for herself, that is obviously what you need her to do but I’d start with some supplementary syringe feeding to boost her intake to stop her from losing any more weight.

I will pick up some critical care and I will syringe her some mushed up pellets and banana until it arrives tomorrow.
Thanks for your advice.

Rose has had her mushed up pellets and bananas but wasn’t a big fan except when their was lumps of banana! She did like sweet potato but not as much as parsley, lettuce or celery! Posey Rocket loved the mushed up pellets and banana and tried to run off with the syringe! Critical care arriving tomorrow! Just one question about mushed up pellets... do piggies prefer it warm?

I’ve found all piggies prefer it warm!

Aw poor little Rose, hope she picks up soon. Can’t offer any advice other than what you are already doing, don’t lose heart x

Rose has tried the critical care and she really doesn’t like it! Any ideas how I can improve it for her? She doesn’t like banana either!

Could you try mixing it with some baby food (Ella’s kitchen or similar) such as apple and carrot purée?
Mine have never liked CC. That’s why I use Emeraid.

Ok I’ll get some in the morning. She did have some on a lettuce sandwich but she sowed her feelings by doing a little cry.

Betsy prefers Emeraid and the others prefer Supreme Science Recovery Plus (which if course is the most expensive!)
Is Rose on Metacam?

What is it about Metacam, they all seem to love it? Has anyone had a taste to see what it’s like? 😋

I’ve never tried it but my last vet said it tastes like honey while Baytril has a bitter flavour.
I think she had actually done a taste test!

Metacam is very very sweet. I had some on my finger and licked it. Personally I didn't like it as it is far too sweet and a very strong honey flavour. My vet said that Baytril was one of the few medicines guinea pigs could have that humans mustn't as it made them go all funny (she didn't elaborate by what "all funny" meant!)

I've accidentally tasted baytril, after I gave Piggle a kiss on the nose for being a good girl taking her meds and she bit my lip! It has a nasty bitter after taste (like that stuff people who bit their nails in the 1980s were given, the nasty taste lasts for an hour!).

Hope Rose is doing ok, my lot much prefer the SS Recovery Plus to Critical Care- healing wheeks Rose, hope you feel better soon x

Poor Rose she seems a little bit better but really doesn’t want to stand on it and definitely isn’t keen to move to far. She is eating well and is very bright but struggling with mobility. The vet has checked her over and doesn’t think it is broken and she has feeling in it as well. I am going to monitor her over the weekend to see how she is doing (I am working away until Thursday and the family are looking after her and the others). We are all really worried about her. I fear some difficult decisions ahead.

Thank you for all your wishes and checking up on Rose.

good news today Rose has started to move around a bit better and even came to get a treat from me. Small improvement but heading in the right direction! Her weight is stable now as well.

Fingers crossed that she has turned the corner now!
