Hi! I recently got a new indoor hutch for my piggy babies and I’m just wondering what is best to put onto the ramp to help them grip. Its got two floors so the ramp is quite steep meaning its hard for them to grip.
Any advice would be appreciated!
:)

First, see if you can reduce the gradient of the ramp. Piggies aren’t climbers so need a shallow ramp.
Its advisable to choose something which can be removed and washed - i covered my ramps with a strip of vetbed

I use cloth ramp tunnels from C and E Cosies. They are basically poly cotton with hoops to hold them open and velcro straps to hold them on the ramp, but they also have a kind of fleecy lining on the base which is easier for the piggies to grip on to.
My 3 wouldn't go up or down the ramp until I provided the tunnels.

Will that be able to go over a ramp that is built into the hutch?

Hi @Coco_Crumble_Mum

have you looked at the link @Piggies&buns posed about ramps ?

I have posted pictures of my ramp and how I added sides . I have also posted pictures of my ramp with and without a ramp tunnel .

There are also loads of different ideas in the thread about how members have made ramps safe for their guinea pigs

I did have a look at this, it was super helpful... Thanks so much!

Well my photo shows the ramp on top of a wooden house to lessen the inclination, so the ramp cover is only shown side ways. I can provide a better photo if it's needed. 😁
Yes ... I think it’d be good to add to the ramp cover section of the thread

We once ordered a venetian blind for the bathroom that had a very similar fit. The guy swore all ways he'd made it to measure - I said I believed him, but he'd measured it! It did cover most of the window but unfortunately the 6 inch gap at the bottom was at exactly the same height as hub's... well, we don't need to go into that!

Glad I found this thread and links, will go and read up......was thinking about what to do with my hutch ramp once the boys go back outside for the summer. They have a Chartwell 2 storey with run which can attach to the the front.
I tried a bendy tunnel placed and secured on top of the ramp, but that wasn't a resounding success so plenty of alternative ideas to try. They are used to using a mini ramp to get up to the 1st floor of their piggy palace hidey- so I think I will try to put this hidey in the hutch to reduce the gradient of the ramp.
Is it better for boars to keep the ramp open rather than covered? Don't want to create a trouble spot now they are more confident.

Its not the fact of it being open or covered which will be an issue. Only one piggy can be on the ramp at a time and that is what can be an issue. If they get on well though, don’t worry.
