Pellets

Well, actually, mine don't really like flowers either, as there are few flowers in the 5 a day hay, & they don't touch them. Will try green oat & cucumber then. They love cucumber
Hi. I'm going to order some of them bags of forage. Considering their pellets are grain free, would it be appropriate to buy the green oat? I'm thinking of getting nettle, plantain, celery stalks. Now, if they like them all, can I sprinkle a little bit of each, or just use one type & change it throughout the week, as I will be giving it to them 3 times a week. & how much do I sprinkle on the hay please? Thanks

It’s absolutely fine to give them green oat.

You can sprinkle a bit of each. Mine always get a variety each time.
I just get a big pinch of each but it depends how many varieties I’m giving - ie if they are getting three types they will get more of each than if I give them five types.

Will order green put as well then. I've scattered the pellets just, & Squeak hunting round, little Bubble just sitting there. Hope he can get a few, bless him. Squeak is the boss!

Squeak was in a mood during the night. He woke me up chirping. Probably because his bowl has gone. I have to stand firm here, & not give in. Its so hard! 😅

Hi. Theres a change already. Only tiny spits of calcium now, & no squeaking at all last night 😀

I've got this, as a treat hay. Is it ok, as bit concerned about the fat content.

Please don’t read the nutrients etc on hay - there is absolutely no need. This is a normal Timothy hay in the picture. They need hay in their diet and any grass hay is absolutely fine.

I just like to give them a mixture of different hays as a change. Since reducing pellets & cystease there's a little change already. Only tiny calcium spots now, & no squeaking at all last night in their pen 😀

Anything from piggie parcels is good!
However, it’s going to come down to what your piggies like. Personally for a first purchase I would go with single bags so you can see what your piggies prefer.
I really like the look of the letterbox forage trays, however, none of my six animals like any of the the flowers so it would be a waste for mine. Mine love all the dried leaves - plantain , hazel, strawberry and raspberry, nettle, birch and dandelion. They also love the green oat and cucumber slices. i also buy the dried carrot but due to the sugars that is given only occasionally as a treat.
Personally I’d avoid anything with flower heads. We’ve had a few piggies arrive at TEAS with dental issues and on examination Simon has removed a flower head that has clearly been stuck in their mouth for a while! Whether this was the initial cause of their dental issues, or happened because of their dental issues, is debatable!

That’s fine to give a variety of hays. You just don’t have to worry about the nutrient levels

Poor piggies.
As I say, none of mine would touch anything with flowers in anyway!

Mine don't like flowers anyway

I've just ordered some nettle forage, see if they like it. Helps with urinary support, so I've read on the piggie parcels site. Looks really good!

Hi. I forgot what you told me regarding the pellets. If the amount if them is causing the calcium squeaky pees. If that is the cause, ( can't be anything else now),,, how long roughly before there's an improvement? Thanks

Diet changes can take several weeks to change the calcium levels in their body

Thank you. Sorry for my anxiety. Been a bad night again with Squeak, but not long been chasing, doing zoomies etc. Bubble gone OK again. Really do wonder now, if its just sounds they make. In the beginning of all this, Squeak was on Metacam twice. For 2 weeks, then 1 week further down the line. It did nothing,, so really does make me wonder now. It just may not be pain

Some piggies are more chatty than others. Ive got four piggies: Popcorn doesnt say anything, Dexter will squeak when I approach the shed and if I’m being too slow about serving dinner then he will wheek at me but is otherwise quite quiet. Wilbur will squeak and chat a bit but mostly just rumbles at literally everything but Hugo clearly has a lot to say! He talks about everything, all the time!

Well, I'm really starting to think now, its just chats. But this certain sound, only when he's doing a wee. There's hardly any calcium in the wees now. I always use dark fleece in their pen to monitor this,, & for Metacam not to work. Surely chatting, who knows. Looked at his private parts, & Bubble too. Both are fine.

This is blood isn't it? Really worried now. Can't get to a vet until Saturday or Monday

Put them on something white like a towel. Blood dries quite distinctively and is easier to tell than just a small patch on a piece of shavings .

The wood shavings this morning has dried a rusty brown. He squeaked everytime he did the red pee last night

Yellow pepper won’t colour urine.

It might not be blood, it might be porphyrins which is a natural dye and can occur at the start of an infection. This is why putting on something white can help determine what might be happening. Blood dries quite distinctively

Its dried a rusty brown. I can't do anything until teatime as I'm off to work soon. How does blood dry then? I'm thinking of ringing vets anyway.
