Not Having Much Luck, 2 Poorly Piggies Over Christmas

Please do keep us updated on what happens with your complaint? In all honesty, if they refuse to sort their practises out, it may well be worth going to the local papers with your story and seeing if some public pressure won't help too. Not ideal, I know, but worth a shot.

I'll definately keep this updated with what happens. Hopefully at the very least it will encourage others to do the same if they find themselves in this position. Its slow progress at the moment though, trying to write down all thats happened isnt easy, I keep having to stop and take a break.

I'm very sorry to read you lost blackberry xx

Today was quite difficult, it was the first full clean since we lost Blackberry. Bramble spent a while looking for her again, she seems to understand now. Ive not heard her wheek for months because shes been poorly so it was a surprise to hear her talking!
Shes munching on hay now and ive bought her her favorite, corn on the cob for dinner.. At least shes actually coming out of her pigloo more now. Caught her flirting with Leonard through the bars earlier too, bless her!

Thankyou.
Back to the vets again tomorrow..shes sneezing and a slightly runny nose. It could just be her allergies but I dont want to take the risk of it being a URI and leaving it to get worse. Especially after losing Blackberry so quickly. Fingers crossed it clears up soon.

More antibiotics to be on the safe side, she projectile pooed at the vets feet, nice to see shes still got her attitude! Shes got the all clear after the antibiotics to meet Shelly and see how they get along so thats good :)
Got all their medical records while I was there...wasnt expecting them to be so thick!

This made my day. Ive been feeling like ive not done enough, that there was something else that I could have tried. I felt like id let them down. Such a short, simple note at the end that need not even have even been put in the records... but it was and it made me feel a little better.

That is nice to see. I would be pleased to see something like that as well.

I dont want to jinx it but...I checked her teeth while doing her antibiotics and theyre fine!? Last time she had them burred according to all the notes I got from the vets was the 25th of January. It almost seems too good to be true, I guess we'll have to see how we go over this week. The fact that she is still improving after all this time is astounding, theyre tough little things when they want to be! Shes taken a huge knock in confidence though, running to hide from me when I go in the room. Hopefully having a little buddy again helps, I just hope they get along.

She was so determined to survive that anything other than giving her a chance wasnt an option. Even the vet was reluctant not to let her try she was so spunky haha although euthenasia was on the cards at every turn. I'm so proud of her. I cant stop looking at those little teethies! Still a little uneveness on the top set but miles from the sharp slanted spikes they were before.20170207_140747.webp

The head tilts back again :( vets tomorrow... I cant believe it. Everything crossed the panacur and septrin can sort it a second time.

I'm so confused! Overnight her teeth have gone from perfectly fine to angled again, but this time...the opposite way to last time even though the head tilt is the same side? O.o

Very relieved shes still shovelling hay down though. Ive had to travel 90 miles to visit family so shes come with again. Shes been so well behaved!

Poor love, she's been through so much and trying hard to be tough. Fingers firmly crossed for her x

Thanks Critter! She really is a tough nut, like someone shrunk a rottweiler and stuck a wig on it haha
Luckily shes still only needing top up feeds from the syringe, shes eating great and has actually gained weight!
Shes not as vacant as last time either which is wonderful, I was worried about more damage being caused, what with her already being blind in one eye but slowly regaining control of her left side and her teeth seem to be correcting themselves again!
Cant be infection related as she was already on a precautionary course of baytril which she finished last night...fingers crossed the panacure works by itself so we can actually pinpoint whats causing this!

Shes improved so much already. It took her just short of 2 weeks to rectify the head tilt last time, and many weeks to eat unaided. This time the head tilt has really improved in under a week, and has only needed supplementary syringe feeding for about 2 days when she was too disorientated to eat from a bowl, but has otherwise continued to eat hay and veg by herself :)

Things were going so well.. but her teeth are back to being a problem. Off to the vets again :( theyre a tiny bit wonky again, but the lower left incisor is wobbly. I'm assuming itll be trimmed back to the gum this time? I'm not sure.. hopefully its an easy fix.

Such a brave sausage, still eating like normal too.

Did you buy your little ladies from a pet shop? I got mine from pets at home and well lesson learned. I will never make that mistake again and will always adopt. Thier first year of life has been totally riddled with URTI after URTI. One little lady has no had a head tilt / inner ear infection and just most recently a suspected abscess on the top of her head. It's been constant. They are only just a year old the wee scones. I hope your little lady gets on ok At the vets with her teeth xx

Yes theyre pets at home piggies, lesson well learned here too! Nothing but problems since we got them.
I knew the piggies would likely have issues, I was prepared to deal with ringworm, but a brain parasite? I cant believe theyre allowed to still sell animals with these conditions!
Thankyou, ive done some reading it seems simple enough to deal with. All the best with the abcess poor little thing, hope its all cleared up soon xx

No I know your prepared for vets bills but certainly not to the extent of the issues your piggies have had and mine. My little ladies head tilt is mostly resolved now but think she is always going to be a little off balance. As long as they are happy though eh. My little girls were from pets at home too. Like I say never again. X

Such a shame that these piggies aren't cared for by the places they go to find homes you really are an amazing person and I think that putting your animals before your own health is so caring and considerate ❤ there are not many people in this world that care but the ones that do they keep the world spinning! RIP to the piggy you lost but I hope her sister will live on for her! Stay strong, we all know that you are :)

Aw thankyou, thats made me feel a lot better.
Her little tooth fell out, growing back nicely though. Shes still gaining weight, I'm pretty sure shes indestructable haha

Shes been doing really well, just short of 900g and still eating unaided. The tooth grew back fine, no issues there! She really doesnt like the eye drops she has to have on her weak side but its better than an ulcer... I need to get better at avoiding bites haha! I suppose she will get used to it eventually.

Glad she is improving, poor litttle mite. I have been wondering how you were getting on. :hug:to you both.

I'm fairly certain yesterday was the first time since she became ill that ive been able to visit family over night and actually leave her behind with the other pigs! We both missed our evening cuddles, but she got her revenge by peeing on me tonight...twice :soz: haha
She had lots to say about tonights Masterchef! Then had a nice, long nap.
I'm so pleased with how well shes doing, other than a slight squint and blue discolouration in the left eye, youd almost not even be able to tell there was ever anything wrong with her. Her teeth are wearing straight again and her eye is less gunky, shes blinking better on the blind side. I'm assuming that means the nerve damage is repairing itself?
Little superpig :luv:
