Junior Guinea Pig
I thought it was high.My latest investigative procedure cost £185 in total. That included sedation, dental and an x-ray.
That is a very high quote and I am sorry to hear this.

Wow. I am slowly learning that they are not cheap. Almost had them 2 years and I am still learning so much about them.He was sedated so they could look at his back teeth. They were absolutely fine. But the vet noticed a bit of pus coming from one of his incisors. But he had no visible lump at the time so he was given ABs. They didn’t work. About 2 weeks later a huge 4cm lump appeared and he needed an op to marsupialise it. It cost £1,000 in total. Piggies are unfortunately not cheap pets.
We are only guessing what could be wrong with your piggy. See what the vet says tomorrow.
Sedation, to check back teeth and if need any work done, possible x-ray and not sure if that was for fluids etcIt obvious depends on the procedure. What exactly was the quote for?
It would have been around £300 if they did bloods as well but as his teeth were the problem they didn’t need to.Sedation, to check back teeth and if need any work done, possible x-ray and not sure if that was for fluids etc
I am wondering if it is his front teeth and if they need cutting to be straight again. It would have been around £300 if they did bloods as well but as his teeth were the problem they didn’t need to.
I wonder @weepweeps, what was the cost of the initial procedure.
I am just wondering if their quote is on the high side or if what I paid was on the cheap side.
Fingers crossed things start to look better for tomorrow x
Mine boys teeth are like this.Slanted front teeth and weight loss was the first symptoms my piggy showed when he had a tooth root abscess brewing
Thank youJust offering support
I doubt I will be that simple. But it’s a cheap first thing to try. They burr them without a GA it think.I am wondering if it is his front teeth and if they need cutting to be straight again.
Thank you me too x

Hope this guide is of some help
Not Eating, Weight Loss And The Importance Of Syringe Feeding Fibre
Yes all makes sense.Glad he seems a little better and the vet trip was positive. With regards to syringe feeding it’s not about how long you can go between feeds. It’s how much you can get in him at each one. Have you weighed him this morning? Has he lost weight since yesterday? If so you need to up how many mls of critical care you got in him yesterday. If he’s gained weight since yesterdays weigh in then I’d aim for the same amount of critical care today that he ate yesterday. Some pigs like syringe feeding and with happily take 20mls in one sitting. On the other hand another pig may only be able to take 5mls. So this piggy will need feeding more often throughout the day to get the required amount in them.
Hope that makes sense. Good luck.
Thank you. I shall try and get more in him before I go to bed. I have got to still give him emeprid every 8 hours. Which will be about 4am.If you can feed throughout the day between early morning say 6.30 am through to just before you go to bed. Aim to get at least 40 ml in that time, the more the better. Hope your little man is feeling better very soon
Sounds like you are doing really well with 60 mls and try hand feeding little bits of veggies. A bowl of plain dry porridge oats can be put in his cage too, they often like them and will help maintain his weight too
Thank you. I will ask on Saturday when he goes back.My piggy had slanted front teeth, lack of appetite and weight loss and an ear infection was diagnosed. The pain from the ear was affecting his appetite. However I had a scan to get it diagnosed and he was on antibiotics for several weeks. Not suggesting your piggie has an ear infection but just offering an alternative to ask your vet.
