More spirit spam 🐍

I know I've not been posting much spirit spam for a while. He's not been very well. About 6 months ago he had bloat and was getting better but it never completely went but he stopped eating a month ago and has us worried again. He saw a vet when we were first woried about him. He had laxatives and a lot of stress so I'm holding out on taking him again (unlike the speedy emergency vet life or death rush with piggies everything with snakes is incredibly slow especially digestive issues). I'm going to see a reptile expert that owns a pet shop and rescue tomorrow to hopefully get some advice and maybe some smaller food that will be less intimating for him. Sadly this may be the beginning of the end as he is quite an old man at the ripe old age of 15 (they can live up to 20 but he's not always had the best care). He's still his nosy dopey little self so here is your belated dose of spirit spam.20230406_112436.webp20221020_212959.webp

I hope he’s going to be ok. 🤞🏻
I hope so keeping piggies I start to panic as soon as a pet turns down food but being around reptile people today has been quite reassuring. I met a snake today that hasn't eaten for over a year and has only lost 5g (a royal python not a corn snake and royal pythons are notorious for doing that)

SUPRISE!
Spirit who we were told by the reptile expert at the pet shop was most likely a boy has decided to come out as transgender at 14 years old by laying an egg! Snakes aren't like chickens that lay eggs whether they're fertile or not they're not supposed to do it unless they've mated and infertile eggs don't look anything like fertile eggs. This has come as quite the reveal as spirit has never been with another snake. Her hips look stretched and a trip to the vets revealed yes she has more in her and this is probably why she's not been eating. The vet doesn't think they're stuck so we just need to set up a lay box and wait.
Here's what an infertile egg looks like for anyone wondering. It's started to go mouldy but it's just a small yellow ball.

In this picture you can see how stretched her scales are around her hips

And here's a cute picture from about a week ago of a worm that knows something I don't

Everything has been so busy I know I've not kept you as up to date as I said I would. But here's the news. Spirit shed his/her skin and soon after laid 4 more infertile eggs completely ignoring the lay box I put together for them. I've not taken photos but the eggs all look yellow and small like the one above. In other reptile egg news my sisters turtles laid 3 eggs but 2 were laid in the water so won't survive. The other has been dropped off at a local pet shop to be incubated and if it hatches sold. We have no idea if these eggs are fertile but they definitely look like they could be. She has 2 turtles and doesn't know the gender of either and seen as the eggs were just found in the tank we don't even know if they've been laid by the same turtle. But if she has one of each gender they could turn out to be fertile. Laying infertile eggs is much more common in turtles and can happen yearly once they reach maturity. I guess it's just that time of year in the reptile world.

Wow it’s all happening at your place! I hope poor has no more eggy problems 🤞

Our little worm woke up today with a chubby chin he's been doing so well lately and hasn't caused any drama for ages. A bit of googling says it's not really anything to worry about too much either he hurt himself eating or it's some kind of benign cyst. The vets are shut now until Monday and weren't worried enough to put it through as an emergency. But if you've ever wondered what a snake with a double chin looks like here's a photo
