Mavis Needs Some Healing Vibes

A little update. After a week of antibiotics Mavis is brighter in herself but the swelling under her neck has not reduced. So I am expecting that she will need to have an ultrasound. Also, she still has very soft poops but I'm expecting that it is the antibiotics causing this.

She is such a a sweetheart and takes all her meds without complaint. Although she is getting a bit fed up of the constant bum baths and has a good grumble at me.

I am very sorry that the swelling hasn't gone down but that she is otherwise coping.

I am so sorry little Mavis still has the smelling, I hope the ultrasound goes well and it’s something treatable 🤞

Mavis had another visit to the vet today. She is much better in herself, brighter, eating well and moving around more.

However, she now has even more swollen glands. So she is back in for more tests on Monday. We are continuing with the antibiotics as they certainly seem to be helping. Hopefully, the further tests will give some answers.

As long as Mavis continues to be happy that's the important thing.

So glad the AB’s have made her brighter. I hope you get some answers about Mavis’s swollens glands and it’s easily treated x

Good to hear Mavis is brighter. Sorry that she has to have more tests but hopefully you will soon get some answers.

:hug:I’m so pleased Mavis is feeling a bit brighter and has been tucking in bless her. Sending lots of love and healing vibes to the gorgeous girl and hope she’s feeling all better soon ❤️ xx
I love that pic with her and Peggy in their prison-bar bed! :))

Why is it everything bad happens all at once. Peggy now has ringworm. Mavis had it some months ago and we thought we had avoided Peggy (or any other pig) catching it (we followed Wiebke's guides). However, today I found a crusty scab on Peggy. I know ringworm is opportunistic and I'm sure the frequent trips to the vet have caused them both a lot of stress but I really could do without this.

Mavis is at the vets today so I will ask for ringworm treatment for Peggy. 🙁 Typically, we are going away for Easter so it couldn't have happened at a worse time.

I am feeling a bit down with 5 of our 7 piggies on meds and seem to be at the vets every week. I know it's all part of caring for them but it's hard to see them ill.

Oh @YvonneBlue I’m so sorry. Just what you and the piggies really didn’t need. Chin up. You are doing your best for all of them. It’s just a really bad patch for you. Big hugs

Ah it’s always the way isn’t it. So sorry you are all going through this. It’s so stressful and just physically knackering.
Your pigs couldn’t want for better care and I really hope you get through this asap and all catch a break.

I am sorry Yvonne, this must be so stressful and obviously the worst timing for you. Hope you have someone who can step in while you are away x

I am sorry you are having to go through this, it's stressful having so many sick piggies at once. I hope you can soon see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Just had a call from the vet and sadly it looks like Mavis probably has early stage lymphoma. The options are palliative care or chemotherapy which may give her an extra few weeks. We are going to think about it but my initial inclination is for palliative care. The chemo may make her feel unwell and the outcome would be the same. Currently she is bright and happy and I'm thinking that I would rather she had a few weeks of good quality life than maybe 3 months of being miserable.😢

Aw no I'm so sorry its bad news 😢 I have to agree with your decision though. It's about making sure her last weeks are happy ones, not dragging them out. Of course as owners and piggy lovers we don't want them to go but that extra time would be for our benefit, not theirs.
Have a fabulous few weeks with her, spoil her rotten and make some lovely memories ❤️

How awful! I'm sorry Yvonne. I'd be in the same mindset if it's any consolation. Quality of life is more important than quantity; although it would be nice to have both.

Thanks Eileen, it's lovely to get such a lot of support at times like these.

My work colleagues are a bit dismissive of my sadness. When it comes to pets they don't seem to think that guinea pigs are in the same league as their dogs and cats.

Poor Mavis, I’m so sorry it’s not a good outcome but I think you are right about the chemo. It may make her feel poorly and only give a small amount of extra time. I hope she stays well and you have loads of time left together x
