New Born Pup
Hello, wondered whether anyone has come across this with their piggies before?
Yesterday afternoon I found one of my 7 year old female guinea pigs Audrey, with what I originally thought was a large rectal prolapse, almost the size of a plum. I took her straight to the emergency vet within the hour who after having a good look actually felt it was a mass, so she had basically pushed out a mass, there was a very small prolapse with it but not very much.
She underwent surgery last night and has had as much of the mass removed, although unfortunately the ‘stalk’ of the mass was to high up so not been able to remove it all, it has gone off for histology analysis to see what we are dealing with but wondered if anyone has come across anything like this before. I’ve had piggies for many years and also work at a vets but this is a totally new one on me!
I’m collecting her this afternoon from the vets, she isn’t eating by herself this morning but taking syringe feeding very well so hopefully with time and being back home she will get going, also passing blood clots as to be expected after everything that’s gone on.
Well done if you’ve got to the end of this post, any experience and also in terms of recovery would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Rachel
