BellasMummy
Senior Guinea Pig
I'm always interested to hear how Pig is doing. I hope you will keep us updated. Sending Pig my hugs and best wishes xx
Missy - lovely to hear from you, I had been wondering where you had disappeared to! You weren't the lady I was chatting to at the vets last night were you (the one with the guinea pig with the throat abscess)?
have you tried daktarin gel on his.penis 3 times a day for 3 wks and 0.5ml oral gel (same one ) 3 times a day for 3 wks? also putting some sudocream on hid penis will help when he bites it or metanium cream used for babies its a total block from urine burns i would start tl suspect internal fungal.now as internal fungals can present thenselves by causes problems in their gut and penis x
Thanks for the advice clairelove. Pig has had a swab (of the penis) and a biopsy (of the wound) and had cultures from both samples. Neither showed any signs of fungal and he has not presented with any fungal symptoms. This is something that was considered some time ago and was dismissed by my vet whom I have a huge amount of confidence in. Pig is currently not nibbling and had a very positive trip to the vets today to review his post-neuter healing.
Also, as an aside, my vet is not a fan of sudocream in general - she prescribed Derma Gel, which we have used with some success.
Hi Louise, thank you so much for asking. I haven't been on the forum much recently so have only just seen this.
I'm hesitant to say anything as I still think it is far too soon to tell and I don't want to jinx anything... so I'm just going to state the facts and keep my optimism out of it!
Pig was neutered on 5th December and I took his collar off 2 weeks after the operation. My counting might be wrong, but if he makes it to Monday, that is 6 weeks with the collar off. In that time, he only nibbled once (and a very, very tiny amount) and has not hurt himself since. Before the operation, he would usually only go 2 weeks or less before damaging himself again.
