Lilly has swollen genitals, gassy, and losing weight

So two days ago Lilly started to look swollen on one side of her abdomen. The vet doesn't know why, but thinks it might be gas. This morning, when I woke up Lilly had watery crusty eyes. She also had a lot of poos and was sitting on a wetspot in her hidey. Like she hadn't moved from that spot in a while. I just talked to the vet yesterday, but today I'm going to take her in to be examined. Because of her other issues, I don't think whatever is wrong with her eyes should wait until we can get a regularly scheduled appointment. Pending the results of labwork, she is still tentatively scheduled for a spay surgery on Friday.
I'm sorry it's coming to this, but it's wonderful she has a chance on many more healthy years with a spay. 💕 Best of luck if she does need to have it done.

Lilly is ok, but is getting 3 additional meds on top of the 6 or so that she's already taking. I have to increase her syringe feeding to four times per day and double the amount I've been giving her. She's still tentatively scheduled for a spay surgery on Friday.

Lilly is very lethargic. I just called the vet and they assured me it was the meds. They said that specifically it was the gabapentin and to decrease her dose next time. It's just super hard to syringe feed her like this because she's too loopy to chew anything.

I can only get about 1 mL of critical care per hour. I do about .1 mL at a time and then gently massage at the corner of her mouth to encourage her to chew. I hope this gabapentin wears off soon and I can feed her a bit more quickly because I'm concerned that at the rate we're going right now it won't be enough to combat the GI stasis. And the poor thing can't even stand very well. She certainly can't be left alone until she comes around a bit more. Just hope she'll end up being ok.

I was holding Lilly just npw and she died. I am heartbroken. I don't understand what happened.

Thank you for the kind words and responses to this thread. I'm taking a few days off from work to be with my family and our remaining guinea pigs. Lilly will be greatly missed, and surely our grieving process has just started, but I know her life was better because of the support and information we received on this forum. I've read through the bereavement guides on this forum and will certainly re-read as needed. I'll consider making a tribute to Lilly on the forum if it feels like the right thing to do for Lilly and our family.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news, sometimes no matter how hard we try we still lose them. You did absolutely everything you could for Lilly, no one could have done more. Sending you and your family hugs and my very best wishes.

Take your time, look after yourself and do what feels right whenever (or if at all) it feels right. Because we all grieve differently, there is no pressure.

See how your family would like to mark her passing. It can help, especially with children but it down to what and how feels best for you all. You can find different and very creative ideas in our grieving guide.
