Great news Helen. She is almost the double of Scamp (Piggie in my Avatar) except Scamp was a boar. I could almost be tempted if she is being rehomed.

She is definitely being rehomed Denise - could send her up with cattery man - (dunno if me n Sokel will need a run now) - but cattery man going anyway on 6th.

Will see how she does in the next week and if you are interested just yell. She really has a lovely personality too.

Just a quick update on Lilac Rose - she is doing very very well and is gaining a little weight. She is eating hay and all types of her veggies now quite easily. I have 2 more antibiotic doses to give her and then that should be her. Her eye is vastly improved (although still a little weepy) and she is doing brilliantly. Her diarrhoea has settled now.

I have today had to take Lilac Rose back to the vet. She was making a crunching noise from her jaw around the cheek area. She is still not eating her guinea nuts whole and I do mash them in warm water for her and still give her the rescue/recovery sachets. She is able to eat some veggies and can eat her hay.

I explained all this to Gerry, my vet, and he managed to get a look at the back of her mouth - the abscess is diminishing and all the pus and smell has now gone away. Because of this he did see her teeth - he says they are all deformed at the back.

He said we have two choices -

1. To administer anaesthesia in the form of a whiff of gas so he can have a proper look at what's going on in there - his problem with this is that she is so tiny he really is concerned about losing her whilst she is under the anaesthetic. He feels she isn't strong enough to cope with it.

2. To let her carry on eating what she can and leave her as she is for the time being. She is wheeking for her veggies and her spoon fed food and is popcorning and is a very loving and sweet little girl - any signs of cheek swelling or if she doesnt take her veggies then straight back in for more antibiotics.

He has basically said her prognosis is guarded and really doesn't know what her outcome will be. He has said he will continue to treat her with antibiotics as and when needed at a very much reduced rate.

I have decided not to subject her to any anaesthetic and to carry on as I am doing at the moment. I don't think though that this little guinea will be suitable for rehome now or certainly in the near future at all. i will keep her here and will continue to spoon feed her. She is gaining weight very very slowly - her little backbone sticks out - so I will continue along this course.

He feels she has possibly come from parents who have bred and bred and this is a result of it.

Just an update.

She is so much better than she was when she came here so I figure quality of life plays the most important factor here and if she is wheeking loudly at me and scoffing her veggies and popcorning - then she is doing ok.

Knowing her now as i do, I will know exactly when to take her back for antibiotics I am sure of it.
