And here I was thinking I was getting a break from piggie problems.....

I think Banner has ringworm. None of the other 3 have any signs of it.
But it will be full disinfectant and washing time here.

Picture attached: ring worm?

I will need to try find an exotic vet locally, as Northampton is a very long way to travel and not sure I’ll get there this week. I’m worried local vets won’t prescribe Itrafungal?

I’ve no idea where he got it from. None of my others have it. Neither does the dog (or us)!

Here is our recommended vets locator. There are perfectly decent vets in lots of areas. Vet Locator

All the best! It is difficult to say what is the matter at this early stage.

Thank you both. I’ll book him an appointment tomorrow and discuss the Itrafungal with the local vet. Odin (at 1kg) had it for oral thrush at 0.5ml once per day, so I’m presuming Banner (at 1.3kg) will need a higher dose. Hopefully the vet will be open to discussing it

So sorry for Banner and you x Just tell them what you want for him, I would write it down on paper x
Thank you. My local vet does let us in for appointments (with a face covering), so I will discuss the success of Itrafungal when prescribed by my vets in Northampton. If they can prescribe it, it will save me a 300 mile trip 🤞🏻

It might be worth having a quick look online at prices for itrafungol and asking the vet how much they would charge Vs just the prescription. I think I saved about half the cost just getting a prescription from the vet
Thank you. I’ll have a look online, but I was unsure if it was prescription only?

You can sometimes pay for the vet to give you a script (prescription ) that you can then send to someone like Viovet/Animed or similar and buy the itrafungol cheaper. But it depends what your vets charge for the prescription cost as to whether it works out cheaper.

Thank you. I’ll ask them that too.
thanks so much everyone!

These things are sent to try us! If your local vet won’t prescribe then try another local one from the vet locator. My own vets (Holmes Chapel) certainly do prescribe oral treatment.

Thank you. Oh, Holmes Chapel isn’t too far from us! Will try if no luck with my local vet tomorrow :)

I hope you can get some answers to your problem with Banner. My vets charge £10 for a prescription and my old vets charged £15 if that helps.

Thank you. My local vets don’t tend to be too expensive, so I hope they can agree to prescribing the itrafungal. Do you think I should be treating all of the pigs? As they are neighbouring pairs?

If the neighbours don’t have any sign of infection I wouldn’t look to treat them. But whoever Banner lives with should be checked over and if necessary will need treatment. When I had Mabel with fungal Molly never got it so only Mabel had treatment. But the foster piggies (sows) I had last year both needed treatment as the aby had infected the crested!

Thank you so much. He’s currently alone as his potential new companion is still in quarantine. So I will keep an eye on those next door to him and treat if they develop symptoms.
Thank you!

It’s definitely not your fault, it’s just bad luck! Like is sometimes they get run down I guess. And ringworm is a faff to deal with but in terms of the really risky things for them, you’ve managed much worse. Betty and Winnie currently have ringworm and are on intrfungal. They had it when we first got them from the rescue centre too (about 16 months ago). Both have a white smudge on their nose and Betty has some little dry bumps on her back. They’ve got thick black aby hair so it’s really hard to see anything but you can feel it on Betty. The exotic vet took a culture test and it was confirmed as ringworm. They’ve had a week’s worth of meds so far but it’s still there so we’ve got another week to go now. The vet reckons these meds are effective and safe to use and we haven’t seen issues with side effects at all. They don’t love the taste but I put a bit of made up emeraid in the end of the syringe which makes them want to steal the syringe and run off with it, they'll take anything with that! Good luck with yours but honestly after what you’ve been through, you can definitely handle this. Keep us posted!

doesnt athletes foot cream work for ringworm? have seen it in the LAGPR videos

Thank you so much. It’s nice you all have so much confidence in me!
Sorry to hear you’ve all been having a hard time with the dreaded ringworm too. I’m surprised Banner has it. He’s always been very healthy and the others don’t have it; it seems to have appeared out of no where! I hope we can quickly get on top of it 🤞🏻

Not really as it only treats the area you put it on and doesn't deal with the spores sitting in the hair all over the piggy. Means that it can look like it's cleared up and then get further outbreaks. Much better to go with oral medication
