Jasmine slowly losing weight

So glad Jasmine is still doing well and he weight’s stable, sure this heat definitely doesn’t help with her appetite, it hasn’t with mine either! Really hope it kicks in soon and she gets scoffing! She looks like a lovely desk buddy though! :luv:
Come on Jasmine you gorgeous girly, get munching! x

So good to hear of Jasmine‘s steady recovery. It really does depend from pig to pig how quickly they regain their weight after an illness or surgery. If she’s maintaining a stable weight and being more like her old self I would find that very reassuring.

Jasmine is still not eating properly, but she is at least showing more interest in food than she has been - even pellets! Now I'm confident her guts are moving properly, I'm giving her 15-20ml per feed four times a day, so she's still getting more in her than the vet advised (8-10ml per feed foyr times a day). I'm also going to try her with different recovery foods, like Emeraid, to see if that makes a difference.

She still doesn't appear to be gaining weight, although maybe four days of consecutive weighing isn't really a good barometer of where she should be. She's still at ~780g, so hopefully once her appetite is back to normal, we'll see an increase.

Jasmine also has her post-op check-up tomorrow, so maybe the vet can give some pointers.

Thanks for your support and advice, everyone! It's really appreciated. :)

On another note, her pee is slightly discoloured. Is this normal? Her wound looks fine and not bothering her, and she's not in any pain from what I can tell. She's on a few different meds, including Cerenia for bladder issues, but there's been nothing previously to tint her piddle.

As I said, she's seeing the vet tomorrow anyway, but it'd be good to get people's thoughts. :)

Has she been eating any veggies that might colour her pee? It doesn’t look like there’s any blood in it to my untrained eye.

I can’t comment on the pee but my lot favour Oxbow Critical Care.
The aniseed flavour is no 1 choice but apple/ banana is also popular.
A bit of banana mashed in goes down very well.

They don’t like Science Selective Recovery Food.

Hope the vet trip goes well.

I've not given her anything other than the usual (which she's not really eating anyway). She's enjoyed a few strawberry tops, but not that many, which is why I wondered if it could be the meds. Could it be a sign of a UTI?

Does Jasmin take meds? Rocky is currently on medication at the moment (well since the jaw abscess started on March) and his pee is like that as well. It also turned yellowish for a few days one time (when he was taking Metronidazole and Marbocyl at the same time). Sometimes it's also orange when he had too many blended carrots. He is on Marbocyl, Loxicom, Tramadol and probiotic.

Yeah, she's on a few right now, but only Loxicom crosses over with yours, I think (Metacam). She's also taking Cerenia and Fortekor, and has just finished Cisapride and Emeprid.

Also, I barely got a chance to mix the Emeraid before Jasmine shoved her face in it!

The vet was very happy and said she doesn't need to see her again unless I have any concerns! Jasmine is back on the Cisapride and the Emeprid again for a further 7 days, and hopefully her appetite will pick back up, so I can gradually cut down on the syringe feeding.

Thanks for your support, everyone! It means a lot! :)

So, Jasmine's appetite is slowly coming back, but she's still lost a bit of weight. 🤦‍♀️ From the initial 786g, she was down to 727g last night. The vet thinks it may be to do with the cysts on her kidneys which is why she's on long-term Fortekor to increase the blood flow to them and hopefully gain some weight.

I was away Saturday evening to Sunday evening, so pigs went to stay with the usual boarder. Jasmine is looking better and brighter than ever, and Paula has noticed it too.

I noticed her poops were a bit clumped and sticky this morning. Could she be dehydrated?

So glad little Jasmine is moving in the right direction now, no idea about the poops though x

Hi!

It points towards a very mild digestive disorder. Take her off any fresh veg for 24 hours and supplement with syringe feed.

You can encourage a piggy to drink from a syringe, especially when supplement feeding but please never force any water down them that they won't like. Over-hydration can be more harmful and potentially even kill.

They do look a little bit like a mild upset to me. Poor Jasmine, she can’t catch a break at the moment!

Update: Jasmine is doing incredibly well! Even her squeaker is working better than ever and she is much happier than her old self too! I've not managed to capture her inflating and then letting out a huge "PEEEEEEEEEEEEP!", but here's a sample.

It's a bit early to say about her weight, but after dropping to 727g on Saturday, it's been steadily increasing to 771g last night without any syringe feeding. I was shocked by the amount of poops I found in her cage this morning! They're a lot bigger than they used to be too. :P I'm hoping that all her issues were caused by her ovarian cysts!

In fact, she's doing so well and taking more of a friendly interest in her neighbours, I'm considering trying to bond the three of them. If it's not going to work, I think Jasmine will very quickly show it with Leo!
