I am sure i am going to lose at least 5 of my 12 strong herd,

they have got very bad eye infection and the vet said the infection has spread to there lungs, they are all rattle and are having trouble breathing, have brought them inside and put some Vick (only a tiny bit) under their noses to help clear them,

this pic is of Lilly's eyes, I've not taken pic because they must feel so bad,

No not sure whats wrong with photo bucket can't copy at mom, but take my word for it , they looks awful :(

I am so sorry. Has the vet given them anti-biotics? I do hope they pull through, you are doing your best. Am thinking of you all x

they are antibiotic eye drops he said we have to treat the eyes and work down, if they are not on top of it by monday they are def going back, possible tommorrow if i can't keep myself together, have brought them indoors they live in a garage which is warm but i wanted them indoors so they have them close to hand

I'm sorry to hear about your piggies. Please stay strong. I am thinking of you & wishing you all the best. I know you are giving them all the special care they need & giving them the best possible chances to get well again. xx

Fingers crossed here too...

If the infection is in the lungs now eye drops won't help, they need something stronger. I think they really need to go back to the vets asap as they can go downhill so quickly.

Oh noooo :( :( :(

God, yeah concentrate on the lungs!! :o

I hope they pull through for you! :smitten: :'( Do you know where it came from? Have you taken them away from the herd that arent infected? :( :(

Hope they all pull through but i do agree they need antibiotics to fight the Lung infection first as thats the most life threatening part right now :(

As others have said they need oral antibiotics too to treat the lungs as well as topical for the eyes.

I have had a sow with the most awful conjunctivits I have ever seen but she is finally on the mend now with ab's and lots and lots of bathing her eyes with silver and also black tea to soothe.

poor little things. you must stay strong hun. thinking of you and of course your little babies. sending healing wheeks, hugs and kisses to all of you, and will be praying for well piggies again. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-*

Go back to your vet today not monday and get Antibiotics for their chest infections or you will loose them , you need to ask your ver first of for an injection of frusemide ( diuretic ) to help clear the liquid of their lungs and then antibiotics such as Septrim , bactrim or baytryl but they need the frusemide so the antibiotic will work better .

Hope all goes well for them

Frusemide/diuretics are whats need as AH Cavies says :) Take the CCT number with you in case your vet won't prescribe and needs to chat to someone about it.

poor you, i'd bring them indoors and yes they need antibiotics. when my boys had pneumonia i gave plenty of vit c, kept them warm and plenty of fluids, cucumber and celery.

cleaned eyes all the time but you need to keep them separately as not to keep spreading the germs between them. really important to make sure they feed and keep strong.

wish you lots of luck. the vets wanted to but my boys to sleep but no way and they are now very strong and healthy. always hope :smitten:

i know you probably know this but remeber to use clean buds every time you wipe the eyes and different ones for each pig and each eye.

i did use tea to clean the eyes like you do for humans, didn't hurt mine. worth trying

Bisolvon (for cats) will also remove catarrh so antibiotics can work but I think maybe yours need the frusemide if they're bad.

Just wanted to give you an update, they are breathing better, but still ill, have been giving them steam with Vick dabbed around nose, they are coughing a great deal and i do believe they are manageing to clear it? fingers crossed,,, but a word of warning to all, i honestly believe that they caught this from my children who have been very ill, the eye infection came in with another pig i am sure of it, but i think because they where run down from the eye infection my children gave them their colds, ,,,, they feed them in the mornings and i do believe they have passed something on through the food,, so don't go near your pigs with a cold.

But on a good note the eyes are def getting better, :)

I feel exhausted so god no's how my little darlings feel,

Thank you for all your support i think it would have been much harder to bear if i didn't have you gang :) will keep you posted

Hi them, So glad their condition is beginning to improve O0

I have read before that you shouldn't get too close to your piggies when you have a cold as they can get human colds.

Just so pleased they are breathing better now :)

AWww thinking of you and piggies, I hope they get better soon :)

Crossing our paws for your littlel ones love :'( :smitten: :smitten:
Have you been to see the vets with them, i too would think that they need oral antibiotics even if you can at least chat to your vet, good luck :)

I am at the vets tonight with them, as i feel i just can't sit and wait any longer and i am sure when the vet sees them he will know i am right, have kept them comfortable over the weekend with calpol and Vick, but although they seemed to have improved i am still very worried and have booked them in this morning for this evening :( not as quick as i would like but it will have to do,

will keep you posted

What did the vet say the virus was , Did they do test's before coming to a conclusion .

Clamidia/ pneumonia, but due to the guineas sneezing and have conjunctivitis, he feels that it could be passed on, I trust my vet,, he is a caring honest man and i feel he would not rattle my cage for nothing.

I don't understand it at all how he could come to such a conclusion without doing a swab first :( :( Especially since chlamydia and pneumonia are not caused by viruses? I would try and get a second opinion or text/phone Vedra for advice on this.

I don't know what else to say really, I'm so sorry.
