how many times a day do you/are you meant to clean your guinea pigs cage?

really just whenever you feel it need it. i spot clean every day and do a full clean once a week.
 
i clean twice daily and do a complete top to bottom clean out weekly!
i house my girls on newspaper and hay (under all that is paper magazines and then under that is bubblewrap)
newspaper and hay is cleaned out twice daily where they use it the most, plus i also check for other areas, usually need to do these perhaps every few days or so...... then on saturday i take them out and completely strip the whole lot everything out and sanitise everything!
i do this cause it then reduces the smell and i just couldn't leave them with a mucky area :( i find it revolting if i have to leave them more than the 12hrs...... it upsets me :...
 
I take their fleece, towels and newspaper out everyday. The fleece dries quickly when they wee on it but I don't want the pigs smelling of wee and the babies wee and poo a whole lot! I do a thorough soak, disinfect and clean of both George's and the babies homes every weekend.
 
spot clean once a day and full clean once a week unless they are really messy and then its sooner. I have three sets of furnishings for the gang so I can if need be clean them out more than once a week, especially if I cant get the bedding dry in time.
 
I clean my piggies cage every 3 days, as we were originally going to clean them once a week, but then when we got them they came with a little information sheet of paper, and that said that we had to clean them out every 3 days.

I clean mine about once a week or whenever they look dirty, cos they're outdoors in very large cages and on shavings so can get away with it. :)

But when I have them inside soon (I'm moving so gonna have them inside) then I'll spot clean everyday, or maybe twice if they smell cos they'll be in my room, and pick out all the poop, and any wet patches, then do a full clean when I feel like it needs it. I'll still use shavings though.

Really it depends on what bedding you have. Fleece has to be spot cleaned every day really, and changed regularly. But absorbant bedding like shavings or megazorb can go longer. Hay can get damp so has to be changed then. If they're indoors then they smell faster, but outdoors the bedding can get damp from rain if they're not very sheltered. And smaller cages need cleaning more often. So it all depends. :) Just when you think it's dirty and/or smelly then clean it :)
 
I spot clean once a day (pick out all poops and change hay/newspaper in hay loft). Then wash the vet bed every 4-5 days! Piggies do require a lot of work, but they are so worth every bit of effort! I'm like Glynis if I miss a spot clean for one day I feel awful! It is crazy how many poops they do in one day! Always at least one of their bowls full!
 
It depends with mine as they go in their run when the glorious english weather permits rolleyes hehe but I usually spot clean 2 to three times a day first thing in the morning, and before veggies and if they are in all day usually mid day as I feed veggies at night. As for cleaning the cage out again depends i try to clean it every 3 days but this is not always practical so sometimes every 4 days :x but it depends on your pigs. For example if they go toilet in a litter tray you can empty this and probably wont have to clean the cage as often etc :{
 
I spot clean the fleece everyday and change the fleece/towels every 3 days:)) as some use the littertray most of the time:)
 
I clean it out twice a week [i cant be bothered to do them every day cause they just mess it up again]
 
i do a spot clean twice a day and change my fleece and towels on the morning of the 3rd day. however this will turn daily once my babies are bigger unless i buy vetbed x
 
I'm bedding on Newspaper and Hay at the moment with a layer of corrugated cardboard underneath. I roll up the top layers of newspaper and hay every other day and replace, then I've been doing a full scrub and clean out replace everything once a week.
 
I think it all depends on your piggies and your set up. The number of pigs, their ages, the type of bedding you have and whether you have hay racks/hay managers, etc. If you have any food bowl tippers, heavy drinkers and wetters, or any tunnelers, as I like to call them (if you use fleece bedding) also makes a difference. Tunnelers are the ones that love to pull up the fleece, get under it and make a bigger mess as a result. :-)

I generally spot clean one to two times per day - once in the morning and once at night, if needed. I use fleece and towels and usually switch all that out (deep cleaning) once every three to four days, dependent upon condition, smell, etc. When I switch out the bedding, I also wash down the whole cage.
 
I spot clean in the morning and give fresh veg, top up the hay, feed, etc, then do a more thorough clean in the evening along with completly replacing the hay, giving more veggies and food if necessary.
 
i think judge it, i use sawdust at the moment and Tilly wees a lot ( i onl have one guinea pig), sometimes she will burry it, or it gets absorbed through i guess keeping the upper surface of sawdust more dry, or like the other day she was just sitting in it! and becuz she is longed haired when i picked her up she had wee in her fur rolleyes, so i do a quick clean out of sawdust in wee areas every day to every other day and a full disinfectant clean every week.

I am going to change to fleeze soon hopfully to keep her dry especially as she has long hair.
 
I've had the gp one week, but so far cleaning has been cage-size-dependent. I would clean every few hours when I had him in the live trap, then once or twice a day when I put him in the dog carrier, but since I have moved him to a much larger area, he seems to have selected a favorite wee-wee spot and leaves the rest of the "floor" dry with poopies scattered around the edges. Or maybe that spot is wet because he sits there the most. The floor is the plastic tray that came with the cage, and I have it covered with layers of newspaper, except that under the corner where he likes to sit and get it wet, I have a newsprint-type magazine that will absorb the extra moisture. I sweep out the poopies all over, and I change the paper totally in that one corner, and it looks like that after my total cage clean today I might not have to do a total clean for several days. We'll see. I washed with mild dish soap and water today when I did the total cage clean; I didn't want to expose him to residue of harsh chemicals.

FYI - A vinegar and water mixture works great for scrubbing down cages and gets rid of urine build up and smell really well too. Inexpensive solution that's safe for piggies, which is the best part.
 
My indoor herd i clean out every other day. My outdoor herd i clean out twice weekly.
I do hink it is personal choice and time commitments xx
 
We clean completely twice a week. I spot clean twice a day after I've fed them breakfast and tea.
When on Hols they last from Sunday to Friday but it is quite smelly by then.
 
glad i found this post, we are cleaning every third day at the moment, everything out washed down, but have a feeling this will be everyother day, as they are so messy.
 
The two sets of boys and married couple are cleaned out every 5 days but the girls are done every 3-4 days as they are a herd of six :))
We spot clean twice a day, morning and evening but if one of us is home all day, will do it more often so they are on the whole kept nice.
Vet bedding is great as well apart from the amount of washing I endure but is worth the hassle :))
 
must admit i am a bit lost on this vet bedding idea,how is it easier than thick layers of newspaper? its not that my pigs wont have fleeces,i have picked up on that, and have ordered some cosies and plonks from lady on here who makes them, also enough for my two new boys when i get them, please enlighten me!
 
mine are all currently on newspaper as I have more Pigs and they're cleaned every other day. When I'm back to 5 itll be twice a week as they're on megazorb
 
I do a big clean once a wheek, and pull out excess hay and poop piles every day. I have one of those poop scoop things for cat litter trays that makes the job a bit easier
