I have never heard that before but i dont believe in neutering at all :-\ and i have had bunnies ALL my life so have my familt and have had NOTHIGN wrong with unneutered animals O0

Its not completely neccessary but anyone with rabbits will tell you its much better for them, not getting buns neutered can seriously shorten their life span and as DSL said theres an 80% chance of uterine cancer in does. Most vets can neuter rabbits as well as they can cats and dogs and theres such a small risk i dont think theres any reason why you wouldnt neuter. Unless you were a certified breeder.

I have a neutered buck and an unneutered doe and he will be 6 this year and Cookie is 5. She has had three litters but only two nests survived. I took them to get their vaccinations last year and the vet never suggested getting cookied speyed. They live together and I have never had any problems with them.

May I ask ILA, why don't you believe in neutering? I definetely recommend it as it prevents uterine cancer for one thing O0

I have different views to breeding to most of you but I don't say it as respect this forum and it's members O0

I wouldnt neuter like i said cause i dont believe in it O0 thats all - yes i thought about it but would never go there 0:) ive had rabbits all my life and never bred them and they were fine :smitten:

GPQ i thank you for your advice 0:) I am in the exact same position you was in :o i have bred and I'm going to my 1st show and yes i must admit my hutches are slightly smaller than they are supposed to be but i love every one of my piggies and each one has names too and i know there personalities as soon as i see them O0 I didnt like rehoming any baby piggies either and kept the majority of them and have only ever rehomed 6 piggies of which 2 came back to me from my little cousin ;D but yes i agree my latest litter was ummmmmm isometime last year and i also have no planned litters as I'm not breeding no more but i love them dearly and I'm also plannign on getting 2 satins for the 1st time at a show :D

because i dont want to risk any animals just to make it live longer ::) god knows how long each animal will live and I'm not messing with any operations unless need be ;)

I do think it's definetely ideal for pet owners rather O0

Plus remember we can't talk about showing here O0 (you know I'm not against showing by a very long chalk but we can't talk about it here)

I personally have only ever had one rabbit and he wasnt neutered, but from being around rabbit owners and reading up i was told it is better for the animal, if i got one now i'd get it neutered. I'm not having a go at anyone, each to their own :) it was just my opinion.

yeah thanks for that but that is also my opinion that i would never neuter O0

I am going to be getting mine done I think, but I will def def def be getting all the jabs done O0

Jabs aren't guaranteed anyway :'( but I'm sure you know that O0

I'm staying out of this debate as rabbits are my 'thing' and neutering is a real issue ::)

I know they arent guarenteed, but anything that is recommended to help, I will do!

If you dont neuter your bun, imho not only are you increasing the risk of cancer in does, but you are also leaving the option open that one day they could be bred from!

The main reason I have to admit to getting charlie neutered is because he will be a house bun, and I dont need any spraying or humping! ;D ;D

Just to say on the neutering front as far as rabbits go I feel that in the majority of cases its essential for their wellbeing.
Not to neuter because of a percieved risk of the operation is misinformed. 80 out of 100 female rabbits will have uterine cancer by the age of 5 if un-speyed (and remember that a healthy rabbit can live as long as 10 or even more years) The risk of the operation itself is much smaller - something like 1 death per 100 in the hands of an experienced vet. My vet has never lost a rabbit during a neuter and he has done lots. So the numbers stack up entirely in the favor of neutering.
The other consideration is the effects on their behaviour and personality. Female rabbits can suufer phantom pregnancies which is very distressing to them. Plus, it is much easier to bond rabbits successfully if they have been neutered - and a rabbit that lives with another rabbit is a happy rabbit ;)

Ive always kept my rabbits separate from other sexes
I am and always have concentrated on my guinea pigs so theres no change there and if i do get these 4 rabbits (2 does and 2 bucks) they will get rehomed O0
I am NOT going to neuter as i 100% dont agree with it sorry that is mo 0:) my rabbits have been happy in the past yeah some naughty but i wouldnt change their behaviour for the world as god didnt create them to get neutered no matter how long they live - I just gie them the best life ever :)

I understand what you're saying, but in the wild they also wouldn't live in hutches or cages so its an artificial life we bring them into. Rabbits often have problems living in same sex pairs and, as I said, they are much better off with other rabbit company, so unless you neuter, it makes it very difficualt to accomplish this.
I'm not trying to have a go at you personally or change your mind, but I think its important for other people reading to know the facts ;)

Yeah i understand you and everyone else to but surely that isnt fact just to get them neutered is better :-\ I dont believe in it

We dont have to neuter ? theres no evidence in anyone in my whole family and friends who have had rabbits that they die younger or are more agressive and most were kept separately but the ones i am getting are in the same sex and will be going together as they came ;)

No one can tell you what is the right or the wrong thing to do but the facts are that uterine cancer WILL kill most female rabbits before "old age" does and that is a much bigger risk than having the operation is. All you can do is look at the facts and then make your own decision based on that.

yeah i already have but my rabbits have never died through anything except old age and dehydration :-\

How old were you when you last had buns ILG? :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: Are you still getting them? Lots of piccies if you do ;) :smitten:

but surely the best thing to do for the rabbits is to get them sprayed/neutered? then atleast you know you have given them the best chance at having a long happy life? I'm just realised confused why you are against it :-\ if you had a boar which wouldnt get on with any other, would you let it leave alone or would you then agree for it to be neutered?

Dehydration? ?
yeah it was really hot and when i were younger i forgot to give it water one day and i found it dead the next day as i forgot to give it water

ok I'm going to stop reading this thread its making me upset and angry how the hell you can forget to give an animal water is beyond me >:(

:o :o :o :o :o

Would an animal die from not giving it water one day? Or did you forget for longer?

Ahhh i didnt know youhad buns last year! Why did you rehome them? :( :smitten:

I dont think so O0 I dont believe in it no matter how long they will get to live 'extra'

well i was like 5 years old and i had to look after the bunny with my mums assistants and she said did i give it water and i said yes as i went in the kitchen but hadnt realised i hadnt - it was hot too - i do remember that day and i do feel sorry for the bunny but he was old too and it wasnt exactly my fault :(

I rehomed them cause my aunt said her friend would like them for her 2 kids and so i agreed as i was looking for a new home for them anyway as i dont really like bunnies :) they are too messy and bigger than guinea pigs which isnt very cuddly enough ;D
