When she is in the tunnel I carefully tip her out and when she is in the open i coax her into a better position. (I have trained her.)

Sorry I'm also getting a little muddled with the various threads open at the moment-

but most importantly... How's ginger nut this morning? Is she still eating/being hand fed?
If she's in pain she'll not be wanting to eat much so if you can get a vet to prescribe some loxicom/painkiller that will help you with the handling & feeding difficulties you're currently experiencing :(
It should reduce the risk of shock if she's not experiencing pain.
Also if she's on antibiotics she's less likely to get an infection from the wounds if the dog bite broke the skin?

It will tip the scales in her favour with antibiotics & especially painkillers for pulling through this awful situation.

If you have a pets at home vets locally try booking in for painkillers with them as they charge a normal rate on Sundays & not an emergency fee, like the majority of other vets.

Healing vibes being sent ginger nuts way & a hug for you as you're probably stressed to the eyeballs with all this. Xx

I have been syringe feeding her and she seems a bit better. I contacted my usual vet and asked her to sort out some pain killers. Now Ginger Nut is on pain killers she is moving a bit more.
She is on Metacam and is going back to get them removed on the 8th (10 days after the operation.

Oh oops sorry just discovered these posts when I was reading through again.
Hope Ginger nut is doing well? Xx

Sending little Gingernut healing vibes and hugs. Keep up the syringe feeding until she is eating normally, this may take several days, until she is fully healed x

I'm unsure what is going on,please could you give evidence of how,what,when and where treatment commenced and ongoing treatment.thanks;
I am syringe feeding her 15ml every 3 - 4 hours and giving her a little bit of carrot every night.
She is been given Metacam (2 drops a day). I will take her back on the 8th to have her stitches removed. The vet told me that I should probably be able to stop giving her Metacam on the 6th but it she still appears to be in pain ( tooth grinding, hunched up, reluctant to move, not eating much and so on) I should continue use.

I shall try to remember a pic but have a habit of forgetting, especially when you have to get out of bed to feed your piggie!

Thanks again,
Miss GPigQueen

Keep up the good work with syringe feeding, you could try her with some other little bits of tasty veg to help her get eating x
try some fresh grass if you can get some that’s clean, piggies can’t resist this

i hope your piggie gets well soon.Maybe monitor your piggies weight daily so you can see if you are giving enough syringe feed to maintain your piggies weight.xx

Sending healing vibes and well wishes to little GingerNut <3
In my experience, the sleep deprivation will get to you eventually if you're doing night time syringe feeding, get into the habit of setting yourself alarms and/or reminders on your phone for things you need to remember. After a while I had to set reminders to eat.. it can become all consuming looking after a sick piggy, so make sure you remember to look after yourself too!

Thanks Eriathwen!

Yes when they are poorly they are hard work as they seem to stop eating which can be fatal for them if for any length of time. You have to keep their tummies working or the gut dies x

When I was syringe feeding my piggy I was also feeding him hay cookies which I think was a little easier for him to tackle than big piles of hay at the time. I hope your piggy gets better very soon.

I think Vicki is referring to your vet visit today and what your vet has suggested you do

Oh,
She said to continue syringe feeding and on the 4th to make it 25ml every 4-5ml every 4-5 hours, leave out a bit of solid food and to keep giving Metacam. She said that she seemed to be improving. The vet visit was mainly to check on the stitches.

Long term syringe feeding is not usually advised unless a piggy has dental or other illness or is unable to feed itself. How long have you been syringe feeding and what have you been feeding in the syringe?
