Finn and Lara

Ouch. Finn be a good piggy. No more biting. Your slave is trying to make you better.

Poor Finn, and poor you, hard pig bites blooming hurt! Hope he takes his eye drops a bit better and feels better soon, but glad it seems to be helping and you haven’t seen discharge today.
So sorry you lost Lara too. :( Sending hugs, she had a great life with you and Finn x

Update on my newly acquired Bear's visit to Dr. Jayne -- Bear who I acquired a few days ago has upper respiratory infection. Dr. Jayne prescribed Baytril Liquid 20 mg/ml, which is to be administered 2X a day for 10 days.

Dr. Jayne put 30 days quarantine for Bear. She believes Bear gave Finn's eye infection during their play-date on the first day Bear came to live with us. So, Bear and Finn can't have a play-date for 30 days.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. Both Bear and Finn are doing better. Per Doctor's order, Bear is still in quarantine away from Finn for another 3 weeks or so.

My 5 year old Finn is doing better.

This is Bear, a baby recovering from URI and still in quarantine per Doctor Jayne's order. The poor baby really wants to have play-dates with his 5 year old neighbor Finn. The pet shop salesperson said Bear was born around February of this year, 2022, so he is about 4 months old now.

Aww hang in there with them! Your great care for them is paying off xx

Baby Bear has been having soft poo, but I couldn't think of anything other than that he was on Antibiotics from Dr. Janye. Bear gave us a scare when he came to us with Upper Respiratory Infection from the pet shop not too long ago.
I bought Bene Bac to sprinkle on his romaine lettuce. After having Bene Bac with his lettuce for a couple of days, his poo became normal.

Bear is on Bene Bac, multi-vitamin, and vitamin C at the moment. If I feel he is doing better, I will have to cut down some of his medication.

Bear is doing well. He is bigger and stronger now. Bear was probably a dog in his past life because he is an escape artist who runs around the house as if he owns the house, :xd:. Bear is a hilarious chap. Bear and his big ears in the photo below,:D

My Finn is now well over 7 year of age. He has been sleeping a lot in one spot, causing him to have frequent wet bum. In addition, his fur lost shine and appears rather tired. Finn still eats very well and happy to accept food from me.
I have Bear and Ben, but losing Finn will be devastating for me.

Finn is a good age but I hope you have many more happy days with him to make lasting memories. Most of us on this forum have had to say goodbye to much loved piggies and know how painful it is.
Sending lots of good wishes to you and Finn x

Poor Finn, it’s so sad when they start to reach the end of their lives but always remind yourself that you gave him the very best of life. I hope you have more happy time left with Finn, take care x

I cancelled my vacation plan due to my Bear missing his dinner and breakfast. After syringe feeding and tummy rub until 3am, he is running around showing huge interest in food again today. Bear is rather chunky and never misses his meals, which is why I was about to schedule an appointment with Dr. Jayne.
He is now running around and eating hay again, but I might hold off on veggies for a couple of days. I will stay home and help him to go back to his usual self and eating huge meals again.

Bear, searching for food as usual. He gave me a scare when he stayed in his favorite corner of fleece bedding and allowed Finn to have all his veggie dinner. Bear is always the one to hold his head high signaling to Finn that he is very interested in his veggies. Rubbing his belly until 3am, and continue with syringe feeding until the next day appeared to have helped.
I was ready to take him to see Dr. Jayne.

I ended up taking Bear to the vet for an X-Ray and the doctor said Bear has gas and prescribed several medications:

1--Metoclopramide Syrup 1 mg (stimulate GI) it says.
2--Simethicone Drop 20 mg (gas relief)
3--Metacam 1.5 mg (pain control)
4--critical care, which is not really medication, just grounded hay.

With the medications listed above with X-Ray, the total came to $400, but a peace of mind is priceless. Also, Finn was worried about Bear so I decided to take Bear to the vet.

I should add that I am glad that I cancelled the Toronto trip to be with Bear and Finn.

My poor Bear passed away. All the medication was probably too much for my poor Bear to take in.
Bear was bright and happy with me giving him tummy rub and critical care prior to going to the vet. I should have just taken care of him at home instead of taking him to the vet.
Bear was walking around and going poop before the vet trip. After Bear took all the medications, he appeared to slow down. I also stopped giving him tummy rub, thinking medication will do all the work. I left him to rest and to get better but he didn't get better, he died.

I’m so sorry Bear has left for the bridge. You definitely did all you could for him. Sometimes no matter how hard we try it’s still not enough.

Popcorn high over the bridge Bear.

Sometimes the call from the Bridge is just too strong and they just have to go. You did all you could for him and loved him very much. He will have taken all that love with him to the Rainbow Bridge. It's part of the grieving process to question what you did and whether it was right. If it felt taking Bear to the vet was the right thing to do at the time, then it was the right thing to do. Look after yourself as you grieve.

I am so sorry you lost Bear, you did everything you could have done and we all would have done the same. I don’t think all the medication would have harmed him, maybe there was something more serious at play.

Popcorn high sweet Bear 🌈

Sorry to hear that Bear has gone to Rainbow Bridge 🌈

Given that he was over 7 years old, I think it is more likely that it was just his time than that anything you did caused him to pass. He was showing signs of aging (like my Squeaks 🌈 exactly a year ago) and more likely the loss of appetite was the start of his body failing, as it's often the first thing that shows us that a piggy is unwell. The medicines you gave him would have helped him feel more comfortable in his final days.

Aw I'm so sorry you lost Bear. Sleep well and popcorn high over the rainbow bridge gorgeous boy ❤️🌈

Thank you. Finn in the photo is the almost 8 years old boy. Bear was only about 3 years old. Finn and Bear were best buddies.

Bear, after coming to live with us from Petco, had to be taken to the hospital almost immediately from having breathing difficulty. Bear then developed skin issue, which again had to be taken care of. After Bear was healthy, he ran around the house, roaming and discovering. Bear was happiest when he was roaming around, hiding, and discovering the house, probably because Bear was in a small place at Petco.

Bear also ate a lot, and this is where I should have paid more attention. Bear just gulped down food, but because Finn and Bear shared everything, there was no way to stop Bear from eating more than Finn. Finn even as a baby, always ate slowly chewing all his food carefully.

Finn looking for Bear is just heartbreaking. Both Finn and I are devastated over Bear's passing.

Bear did enjoy food too much, even resorting to stealing Finn's food. Finn always chewed his food carefully. But for Bear, being careful was never his style. Bear loved his life and his food.

I just couldn't figure out how to hold food from Bear while giving food for Finn as they shared everything together. Doctor stated Bear had gas, so I believe he died from bloat.
