COVID-19 Coronavirus

I'm in a hotel tonight, no one is at the desk, and I have no toilet paper, so I had to buy a kitchen roll, only thing is, kitchen roll will block drains very easily. If you use kitchen roll, flush often to get it through the waste pipe.

Just realised, a hotel is probably one of the worst places to be right now
Cause stupid people think once its out of sight it's out of mind. Until they flush and the toilet bowl water rises over the seat. London will have the biggest issue here with all the fat burgs.

The worst part is, people in upstairs flats won't be affected, the ground floor will have a flooded bathroom when the backed up sewage waste comes up through the loweest part of the house, the bath plug hole. Which is what almost happened to mine a month ago

Perhaps people were following your advice a few days ago

Never been more grateful to have opted for a home birth if I'm honest. Let's just hope baby is on time and there's no complications
Best of luck for your home birth! They wouldn't have allowed me to have one with my babies, I was too ancient! That was just as well with #1, as he got stuck (in the u-bend) and they had to use forceps :D

It's worse isn't it. It's exactly why schools aren't shut yet. In school there may be a high number of children but it's the same people day in, day out so controlled in a way. These same kids go and spend the day in a shopping centre and potentially pass to a larger number of people or put themselves more at risk of getting it. Surely if you are worried about your child contracting covid-19 then you shouldn't be letting them go and hang out in the shopping centre especially if you are too worried to send them to school
Schools should close I think, but then you have nurses with kids that have no one to look after them. Theres no best way to do anything. It's all screwed
My son's school has announced it's closing from tomorrow :( (Thursday for Years 7,11 and 13).
I'm sure going to have a fun time trying to get him to do the work they will be sending online! Fortunately I don't work presently so it won't cause me any job-related problems. I'd be happy to help look after my son's school pals to help out their working mums, but he only has one friend that I know. Glad he'snot in an exam year though!

While I know this isn't the point at all, since when does 18 rolls of Andrex cost £2.50? From the article:
"Another had sold an 18-pack of Andrex for £8.50 – more than triple the retail price of £2.50."

Now, I'm all for calling out those people who really are price gouging and selling on ebay and elsewhere for massive profit just for the sake of the profit, but that's just flat out wrong. You'd be lucky to even get a 4 pack of Andrex at that price.

Quite a few Bristol schools have now closed classes and year groups due to teacher shortages.

Yes please don't confuse social distancing and isolation. Isolation is avoiding all contact with everyone. Social distancing is to avoid unnecessary contact and travel. It's not bad advice at all. I'm on maternity leave and now in the high risk group so social distancing it is. I took the dog for a walk earlier to get out and get some exercise. I wanted to go to the butcher's but hubby insisted he should go instead. Obviously I still need my midwifery appointments though they happen at home and if I go overdue I will need to attend hospital but other than that I don't intend to mix with people. Sadly this means not going to visit a friend who ended up having their leg amputated suddenly a couple of weeks back.
Sorry about your friend.
Hope they make a good recovery.
Hope your last few days of pregnancy go well and baby arrives early or on time

Mrsskypipdotbernie is officially in isolation, because she has to use a brown inhaler, the head of school has sent her into isolation

Piggy daddy just visited my old terminally ill mum to see what essential shopping she needed... she wanted a new dress and a crate of beer bless her :) all sorted out no problems! Mum thinks assuming old sick people want soup and toilet rolls is a bit patronising, she wants to look glam and be drunk right until the end!
Well piggy daddy just phoned his 78 year old Uncle to ask if we might drop off a few shopping essentials... he wants a new microwave oven bringing! I think these old folks might be taking advantage a bit, but no problem, a new microwave oven it will be! They all seem to have plenty toilet rolls anyway, I think many old folks stockpile routinely, piggy daddy once found a stash of biscuits that had genuinely gone out of date 25 years ago in one of his uncle's cupboards...!

Hilarious, he's like an old squirrel ❤️🤣

My mum always used to keep a stock of stuff in the loft - loo rolls, cereal, flour, sugar mostly plus the jam she made. Partly it was due to growing up during wartime rationing, partly because of all the strikes and shortages in the 1970s. She was careful about using it in the right order so it didn't go out of date though :fog:

I feel like there is an eerie type of atmosphere around. People are planning but not entirely sure what for.... it's business as usual but not at the same time.

As I passed home bargains tonight, lots of people were still taking trollies in as they carried empty bags. Not sure what they were looking to buy!

With all the social gathering measures in place, local theatre is closed for next 6 weeks. It means my Mums birthday / Christmas present trip is now cancelled / to be rescheduled. We are disappointed but safety comes first. Part of me is glad to have that decision of going or not taken out of our hands.

I've managed to avoid everything except this forum and facebook for last couple of days (did catch a bit of the PMs conference thing yesterday) & feel bit better because of that. I am hopefully doing everything I can to keep mum safe. Still at work however, lots of schools around us are doing partial closures. We only have 1 staff off at minute in isolation (due to a family member and not her) but I personally would prefer to be home. I feel so vulnerable on the bus.

Chatting to a friend earlier who has a background in health care.
She speculated that the Coronavirus may have been here longer than we realise - it just wasn’t named.

Her reason was that a lot of people were very ill with what seemed like a very bad cold but much worse than usual.
I certainly don’t remember ever being so ill with a cold before.
Even my husband thought it was unusual for me.

She suggested that this could have been the earlier form of the virus.

If it was then I should be immune now :D

Interestingly we had this conversation last week. Not this Christmas just gone but the one before hubby was very, very ill with a cold/flu. He was a bit delirious, very feverish and slept a lot. He said it could have been the same thing but only just named

We both appreciate it, thank you :)

I've had this conversation with several people this week @Merab's Slave I tend to agree.
I hope you are right ...... I was ill with a cold last November ....it took me 3 weeks to get over it . However, I'm not going to test the theory if you get what I mean. 😷

That's not a reason to go into isolation. Social distancing yes, which means not being at work too, but isolation is for those with symptoms

Oh that's what her boss said.. I think people are getting it wrong or I heard wrong

I love my daughters school, encouraging supporting local business and kindness annd providing us parents with daily updates! Best headteacher ever, for children in need he asked all that could to donate food items so they could stock a local food bank to help local families rather than a cash donation. So blessed with this school honestly! I have edited names out of this screenshot I hope its OK to post!

Well I've just briefly panicked noticing I have an odd rash on my face but then I realised I ate a takeaway sandwich earlier so its probably a food allergy to some hidden eggs or dairy not covid-19...!

I work at a hotel and we've had hardly any bookings this last week with many big conferences cancelling as well. The casual staff aren't getting any work. Luckily I'm contracted but there's talks we might have to close in the next week so I don't know what will happen about being paid etc.
