Giddy da Guinea

lol, I've always seen people dress up Guinea Pigs in hats and costumes, is this cruel?

Practical clothing for animals eg rugs, dog coats etc is the only type of clothing I like to see on an animal if it is for the benefit of the animal great, but if it is to 'accessorise' I don't agree with it at all.

Agreed to practical clothing, such as Greyhounds, they need coats as they have hardly any body fat. Some say skinny pigs need clothing, others say they do not as long as they are kept inside as they should be - I don't know enough about skinnies to be able to comment on that, but I would think if I was a hairless animal I would probably need some help!

Ditto also about accesorising, especially the craze about dressing dogs up and putting them in a handbag ::) I saw some woman across the road in town with a dressed up dog in bag, and the people standing behind me were pointing and saying very loudly how disgusting they thought this was, but the lady with dog just ignored them. I think animals look beautiful in their own fur and look ridiculous dressed up, and personally I don't like it at all. When it comes to something like popping a little Christmas hat on for a minute to take a pic it's not too bad if it's no stress to the animal perhaps, but I wouldn't like to think of it causing discomfort in any way.

Practical clothes are fine, but if you just want to dress something up get a dolly.

Practical clothes are fine imo and often needed.

I don't like dressing up just for the sake of it though, get a doll if you want to do that!

Although, saying that, I see no problem with say, putting a christmas hat onto a guinea pigs at christmas for a few seconds to take a picture, aslong as the piggy doesn't mind.

lol, i have no intention of dressing buzz and beaver up, i was just curious on your oppinions ;), ty guyzz!

I think aslong as they don't seem to mind fo a few minutes if it was for a photo i don't see a problem but i wouldn't make a piggie wear a costue 24/7 that would be cruel.

yes there have been a few pics on here that have made me smile, guineas in hats and scarf ect: its a little bit of fun and as long as the pigs aren't in them all the time i do not see this as a prob,

I also prefer animals in there own coats, I brought my mums dog a father christmas out fit, which he wore for about 20 mins whilst we took photos of him, but he is such a tart he enjoyed it no end ;D

But i do think like some of you that outdoor coats for dogs and horses are ok

My dog has a coat, he is a Shar-Pei, if know about the breed, they only have 1 layer of hair, thus he gets cold when its raining/snowing. Plus he hates the rain so his coat is for practical use.

I have two Skinny Pigs and I disagree with keeping them in clothes also. They are an indoor animal and should never be put outdoors with a jumper on this is not sufficent to keep them warm. I admit to dressing Kanika up for photographs, she has a couple of jumpers made out of socks, the maximum time she would be wearing them is 10minutes when I get some good photographs, then its removed. My hairy piggies have also woren scarves, hats but these would never be left on.

Capy my first Skinny had very bad dry skin and she used to itch terribly, with them having no hair she would cut herself quiet bad. This is when I came up with the sock jumper idea. I would apply plenty of cream onto her skin and then put the jumper over the top to help it soak in and stop her from itching. She would wear it for approx' 1hr and I would be around her during this time to make sure she never got stuck or hurt herself. Sadly Capy died due to diarrhoea but she would have the cream applied twice a day and it did help soothe her skin.

I don't agree with dressing animals for amusement, but I think proper dog coats (not the fashion ones) are a great idea for wet or cold weather. Our dogs were happy to wear fleecey wotsits and they felt much warmer to the touch, and also seemed to want to spend longer out in the cold weather.
I guess everyone knows their own guineas best so maybe some pigs don't mind have something small or light or whatever on them for a couple of mins. I can't imagine my girls being thrilled about it so I haven't tried. It does look cute though!

Animals that need coats are fine with me. Hats for photos are ok too, but I don't like dresses. One site even sells diapers for guinea pigs! 98) How unhygenic!

guinea pig nappys! :o :o :o
when Horror was younger smaller and even more cuitter i put a small bow in her hair the look i got would have killed any one younger! she hated it! so have never dressed her up as she hates it! i don like it as it sometimes looks abit scary! george whears a fleece top if he's wet and cold like this morning after his walk through every puddle in Norfolk!
:smitten:

I'm with most of the other members, practical reasons are fine but silly outfits are cruel. i saw on E news that there was a dog shop where Paris Hilton shops and they had dog SHOES. they had a dog modelling them, it was so sad, his poor dog couldnt walk :( >:(

well ive been on youtube today and a few on there decided to do the famous homer thing - spider pig and yes youve guessed it dressed them up in spiderman outfits and lifted them up to the ceiling :tickedoff:

practical clothing for dogs, horses etc. is ok i think O0 but guineas don't need it and just dressing up so the animals look like little babies i totally disaggree with :tickedoff: but hats for photos is ok ;)

dressing piggies or any other animal is silly with why do it, it is only for the dressers own amusement, the piggy gets nothing out of it apart from stress and annoyance dont do it plain and simple.

(I do however believe that certain types of animals require a extra layer and that's ok my dog has a jumper and a couple of practical coats)

thing is people like Paris hilton make animals an accessory by dressing hers up all the time and its set s such a bad example i think while it looks cute its wrong unless like dazie says they need it

It makes the guinea look silly anyway ::)

I don't like clothes, except to keep someone warm, (greyhounds etc)

Guinea pigs could get to hot and they will go POP! :o

Have you seen Boutique collection in P@H, I like the colours and everything but My dog has enough bling as it is, Jess has a Diamond collar.
Honey chewed her own up so shes just got a plain pink one.

my pigs didnt mind having their hats on for christmas cards photos but they had them there 5 minutes tops and would prob have thrown a fit if id kept them on them much longer....

a couple of my friends have yorkshire terriers and "dress them up" especially at the minute when its freezing... they have fine jumpers for going out back for a wee and coats for walks... where we live its always wet and muddy and it would be awful for the dogs to keep their fur long, so they have to be groomed quite short, without coats the poor wee mites would freeze. buddy and tyson stand by the back door and wait for their jumpers to go on before they go out.... and a few weeks ago i bought buddy a hoodie from p@h and showed him it and he jumped on my knee and started kissing me and nudging the hoodie with his nose, thats not the behaviour of an animal thats distressed.....
