Me to, Cedric is an insperatind :hug:he is such a brave little piggy

Thanks for posting Cedric's treatment details and his progress. It never fails to amaze me the care you are prepared to give and the fantastic results.
I hope Cedric continues to improve.

Day Seventeen (Yesterday)

Cedric is still doing very well, the Zithromax seems to be holding the infection at bay, but we are now wondering whether adding Marbocyl to the mix might be the way forward. Will see what Simon thinks on Monday.

In the meantime, Cedric appears to have developed a foot fetish...

Day Eighteen

Pre flush eye socket. Pus is still building up. We will beat this!

Bless Cedric, he is doing so well. Am sorry his infection is not clearing as well as hoped, hopefully the Marbocyl will do the trick if Simon decides it is needed. I remember him saying to me that if the Zithromax Tim was on didn't clear it he have to consider Marbocyl.

Thanks for the update , !

just a thought, has a an antibotic inpregnated bead bean considerd ?

Hi, as l understand it, anti biotic beads are often used for dificult to manage bacteral infections, there are diferant methords but
basicly , it is bead about the size of a grain of rice that has been inpregnated with the apropriate anti b, then sown into the infected wound

At the moment, Cedric's eye socket is still open which, with twice daily flushing, allows us to clear any build up of pus from the area. The issue with sewing in the capsule would be that his socket would be sutured closed, which would then not allow us to see exactly what is happening. He's doing well - already wheeking his head off for whatever he can get!

Apologies for not posting before. I have a real problem with eyes and the photos but I do have to deal with eye issues among my piggies and this is a very useful thread. I'm glad I had my breakfast a while before looking, though.

Such a brave piggie! I'm so glad that everything went well with Cedric. Hope he continues to heal:luv:

Thank you for posting. Not sure how I missed this but will now pay more attention to eyes in my piggie checks.

Thank you for documenting Cedric's progress, it's lovely to see that he is still bright and chipper despite his problems. I'd be really interested in hearing how he's getting on, bless him :) xx

Cedric's body language in the photos shows he is strong and confident. I lost my Alex due to an unknown illness but it started with an eye problem. I took him to a local vet who I now realise was not guinea pig savvy, Alex did not improve . I then found this forum and took Alex to a recommended vet. Unfortunately Alex died, the vet could not give a cause . But had I had information like this thread and others on this Forum things may have been different.
Come on Cedric we are all willing you well.

it is amazing how Cedric is simply taking it all in his stride ! the brave little man is an insparation,

What a very interesting thread. Cedric is such a truper bless him. Such a stunning piggie too. Hope he is doing well!

Poor boy :( I have nothing but admiration for you for looking after him so well!

Thanks for your feedback. I hadn't posted on here for a few days - purely busy with the pigs. But, will let you know how he gets on. He's a very vocal pig - has gone from 735g to 970g since he's been here. Might be all the grass he's getting, due to shouting his head off! He's still on his meds and twice daily flushing. He's due back for another check up with Simon next week, as long as all goes well. His eye is healing nicely. Will post again, a bit further down the line. x
He looks like such a sweet lil guy. Good job on getting him back to health

My friend once had a pet store guinea pig and it developed an eye issue soon after she bought him. The poor thing's eye was completely shut and the other one seemed irritated and she had talked to the vet and they gave her some treatment for it and within 12 days the eye problem seemed to have cleared up luckily.

It's a shame this little guy didn't have such luck. I'm so proud of him for being brave though and as curious as ever despite this ordeal. Thank you for documenting this, I am fascinated with medical issues!

l remember careing for a little white dog who had problems in 2 eyes, her name was Myre.
her keepers vet was not doing to well so she asked me to take her to my vet,
my vet removed both eyes, and as far as l can remember she is living hapily with new keepers in kent or some were like that. as "i think' ! her origanal keeper died, but l am not sure

Myre settled down to having no sight at all almost emedeatly , it was amazing

Unfortunately for Cedric, he had an abscess which had formed behind his eye. The only way to relieve the pressure from this and the only route for it to drain was outwards through the eye socket, so the removal of his eye was absolutely necessary, in order to save his life. He is still very chirpy and hasn't lost any of his spark, despite losing his eye. In fact, I think it's made him even more of a confident, cheeky pig who now knows he can get his own way! :)

He is still on his Zithromax (pm) and Marbocyl (am), with Metacam at both ends of the day. Not sure what the next move is, but his eye socket seems to be stubbornly resisting getting better. Debbie will see Simon today and see what his opinion is.

Tim is exactly the same, am sure he shouts even louder for his hay, and is not impressed if I don't put the fancy stuff in.
