Brownie

Hiya guys , thought ill give you all a update
Brownie and Milo have both calmed down now a bit , still doing there rumbling noise if that’s correct but apart from that everything has quieted down , I am gonna start bonding on sunday or Monday if that’s all okay? It’s just Hay and water in the neutral bonding cage isn’t it
They seem like there just both so happy to see eachother , do i put them both in the bonding cage all day? or 30 mins per day and how long will i need to keep putting them both in the bonding cage do you know , is it a week or more…
1 more question ? How long is it until they can go into there natural territory together if of course (if they get along )etc…. do then they sort it out between them selves after they have both gone into together in the same home?
thanks guys

Please read the bonding guide, it explains everything more than we can repeat in any one post

Bonding is a one time event - you put them in the bonding pen for the whole day (even overnight if needed):

If it works.
In which case you move them to the cage together at the end of the day and they remain together all the time. You must never separate them if their bonding is successful.

They will then spend the next two weeks sorting out their hierarchy.
Occasionally a bonding can fail during these two weeks if they fail to sort out the fine details of their relationship

OR
It fails.
The bonding fails there and then in the neutral pen and in that case they have to go back into separate cages for the rest of their lives.

It would be a great shame if it was to fail but not the end of the world. Boars can happily live side by side for company and many forum members have this situation. Try not to worry and good luck 🤞

Thankyou so much! x

only problem with that unfortunately i wouldn’t be able to keep milo if eveything fails due to the cages in my room… not any space and not big enough for 2 cages 😢
so if it does fail i will have to rehome milo unfortunately, id feel awful but its only because no room it’s okay for now …. but the forever
been struggling to getting my walldrobe 😂

You can bond whenever you feel they are ready

i am bonding now
there is a lot of humping going on
teeth chattering aswell
they have not actually like hurt eachother or anything they just keep putting there faces really close to eachother
brownie won’t stop humping and neither will milo
is that all okay ?

It’s all normal dominance

(I’ve moved your thread to the bonding section of the forum)

Thankyou so much
brownie and milo are laying down
brownie just seems a bit annoyed by the humping
they tried to go at eachother but they didn’t fight
will the humping stop?
everytime there next to eachother they just keep humping

Yeah guys i really don’t see it working
milo is trying to fight brownie
brownie is so chilled out and milo just wants to fight so what do i do from here

Humping calms down but it probably won’t ever stop as it is a normal dominance behaviour and a way of maintaining their bond

You need to be sure you aren’t confusing dominance and fighting.
They will mount, chase, hump, rumble - all normal.
However dominance can go too far - if the humping is incessant and nobody is getting a break

A fight is a rolling round furball, locked into each other.

If you really don’t think the bond is working then they must be separated

i’ve let them have a break now ,
they have a little fight so should i leave them for a bit then try again? just becasue they both didn’t look to happy
there were jumping at eachother
like going for eachother

Bonding boars is a one time only thing.
Once you separate due to fight then it is over I’m afraid and you can’t put them back together .
I’m sorry it hasn’t worked

thankyou so much guys
i’m gonna look at rehoming milo unfortunately
and stay on a the adoption centre for brownie to bond with a male as milo doesn’t seem to bond

hiya guys I’m gonna give Milo to a rescue centre
And look at more boars to bond with brownie
Brownie was ready to bond yesterday but Milo wasn’t having any of it he just wanted to fight him
So hopefully there will be another little boy out there for brownie and hopefully one day Milo get a little friend too
Some boars just don’t get along I guess x

I am not gonna do the bonding this time , I’m gonna have a look around for somewhere who could help with the bonding x

There are two types of bonding at a rescue.

1. Speed dating.
Your piggy goes to the rescue for a few hours and meets a boar.
During this type they go through acceptance but not much more of the process. You have to bring them home in two separate carriers and then continue bonding yourself at home, and then move them to the cage if they are ok . You would neee to put them back on neutral territory for several hours more before them to the cage together.
As acceptance has occurred, you know they like each other but it doesn’t guarantee they can fully form a hierarchy (which will continue over the following two weeks of being together).

2. Residential bonding.
Your piggy moves into the rescue centre for around a week. This allows the early stages of bonding to be completed.
You can bring them home in the same carrier and put them straight into the thoroughly cleaned out permanent cage together for them to continue bonding. As it’s a new environment, it will Co time for the following two weeks.
The issue with this is that due to the resources involved, not many rescues offer it. You would have to call and ask them.

Sorry things didn’t work out with Milo.
Hopefully he will find a new friend at the rescue.
It must have been a hard decision for you to give him up.
I hope things will work out for Brownie and a new friend soon

Sorry guys just seen all thus
Yes hopefully
The feeling of giving him up is awful
But I just hope hope Milo friends his forever friend
And I found a place that does bonding
So hopefully it all works out
I find a 12 week old baby called pudding
Ive just got to make it cage a little bigger it’s 4.7x2
Need to make it 5x2 so extra 6 grids I could do with
Sometimes things don’t work unfortunately
I’ve still got Milo at the moment just waiting for him to go to a rescue as it’s the only best option x

The four safe veg which can be given daily are lettuce, cucumber, bell pepper and coriander.

Any fruit (including Carrot) should not be in the diet regularly as they are too high in sugar. If they are given it should be just one tiny piece as a very occasional treat and definitely no more than once a week. Fruit is not something they ever need to eat.

Spring greens is fine to give thin slice once a week.
