Bladder Tumour

Ugh 🤦‍♀️ so we ended up upping nugget to the 3ml of cat metacam twice a day a couple of days ago, as lower and she was still uncomfortable but yucky baytril seems to have given her syringe aversion 😑 so as you can imagine wrestling 3ml into her has been so much fun (and likely counter productive to a stress based ic flare!) so got some extra advice from the vets yesterday and mixing it in with a small amount of mush which she will happily eat from a bowl 💪 also sprinkling cystease on veg so I don't have to syringe that too! attempting to lower the dose now as that dose is only for short term use I think (I signed a form for the dose because its so different to the datasheet dose) going to have to order more metacam tomorrow because 30ml will only last 5 days at that dose 🙈

Will they give you the dog version? At 3 x the strength the volume is only 1/3rd. Maybe cheaper - certainly a bottle should last longer. George loves his 0.8ml but I can't imagine trying to get 2.4ml in without a fight!

Definitely not 😂😳 I tried to fight that one with one of my rainbow bridge piggies it did not go well and apparently vet could loose her liscence because cat metacam is licenced (even if only for post op pain) at nearly £40 for a 30ml bottle of cat I'd definitely prefer dog but adequate pain relief is what matters most and I don't want my vet to feel uncomfortable prescribing something ♥️

Aww bless you. Metacam cat seems to be the only thing licensed for piggies at the moment but I’ve been prescribed the dog version before by very experienced vets. Either way you are doing what’s best for nugget. Wishing you well for a speedy recovery for nugget x

Thankyou 💖

That's a shame you can't get dog Metacam. My vet was happy to give me a prescription for 2 x 180ml bottles of dog Metacam a while ago as I now have 2 piggies on it long term. Will your vet give you a prescription for cat Metacam? It may work out cheaper for you to get it online. Remember to factor in the cost of the prescription from the vet and the postage when doing the sums. Pet drugs online, Animed and Vet UK are where I've got Metacam from in the past.

Thankyou 💖 They'd almost definitely give me a prescription for cat metacam I think but as the label says give 0.4ml once daily this can be increased up to 3ml twice daily I'm not sure how it will work with needing to order more often? Or do they do the prescription for several bottles? I'll definitely enquire if I can't successfully lower it I think :) if I needed a prescription per bottle it'd be the same/more expensive especially with delivery too 😳

You'll need to check with the vet about how many bottles they are willing to put on the prescription. As Nugget is needing Metacam alot they maybe happy put more than 1 bottle on the prescription.

Thankyou ill definitely ask :)

Nugget is now on 1ml twice daily of dog metacam with the hopes to reduce it Monday and had a cartrofen infection today, back on Friday for another :)
Sending hugs, so glad you managed to get dog Metacam, it should go further
Vets are allowed to prescribe unlicensed medications, they have to pay a small surcharge which is Usually passed on to the owner. The Cat and Rabbit Clinic always prescribe it for guinea pigs as they tolerate Metacam so well. Hope it keeps Nugget comfortable x
