You’ve had such a tough one, I’m so sorry it wasn’t better news. Hope she’s comfortable and happy with you for a long time yet bless her xxThankyou so much just can't believe it knew she didn't look right but didn't expect that 2021 has been one hell of a year
Sounds like you've weighed up all the pros and cons for Nugget's welfare. Hope she's got many more pain free days.I just had the quote emailed for if we did explorative surgery and biopsy with miss nugget, it's far out of our affordability (would eat the entire vet credit card) and they're pretty sure they can't remove it anyway. Combined with her being small for what's usual for nugget, the risk of spreading if we biopsy and the fact she still has good qol I think we're going to treat palliiatively, I don't want to put her through an op and risk loosing her on the table for low odds of success, I wouldn't pts unless her qol was bad anyway so I'd sooner spend the £££ on decent pain relief if she ever requires more than just metacam
Thankyou tramadol is about £95 a month I think xxSounds like you've weighed up all the pros and cons for Nugget's welfare. Hope she's got many more pain free days.
Can I ask, you mentioning that about the cost of stronger pain relief, is it very expensive? I've not been recommended that before, could be a good idea.
I’m hoping that you will be able to keep her comfy and she will have many happy days with you x
Thankyou so much we hope so too xxYou have made the right decision. I hope Nugget has many more happy days left x
Exactly this! After her ovariectomy she had about 5 or 6 post op checks, lost a load of weight and an emergency vet trip. When the vet mentioned a surgical biopsy and I asked if it could be removed and she said she didn't think so, she could try but even if she could remove it and nugget survived the op it would've likely already spread or would grow back I immediately did not want to do surgery, not to mention she's still - 200g for what's normal for her I didn't want to take the risk of loosing her during surgery or recovery and didn't want to put her through a surgery recovery with low chance of a cure given the metacam is working and she's so happy! If it was an op with good odds of a full recovery it would be different. There's always the niggle of 'what if she would've done fine with the surgery and could've been cured' but i know I would never forgive myself if I put her through that for nothing or we lost her on the table. I'm feeling better about my decision now that I can see such obvious improvement in her with the metacamAh …..you are thinking of Nugget and how she wants her days to be …. pottering about, pain free, with her friends and just doing what she loves. You are a wonderful piggie hooman and as everyone has said I hope Nugget has many many more days with her hooman family
Thankyou she's amazing it really is, makes me so happy and so much calmer seeing her be her normal self as long as her today's are happy that is all that mattersAw, so lovely to hear that Nuggat is doing so well, she’s a little fighter x
Isn’t metacam amazing, I sometimes think we all could do with some!
You are absolutely right, if she is happy and enjoying life, enjoy it with her xThankyou she's amazing it really is, makes me so happy and so much calmer seeing her be her normal self as long as her today's are happy that is all that matters
I know bless her and she only showed intermittent looking uncomfortable and no signs of severe pain she must've been in agony! Metacam is magic I feel like I can breathe again now! Very glad we didn't operateThat's made my day too! What positive news - well done Nugget x
(That must have been one VERY inflamed bladder! )
Thankyou! I'm honestly so happy xxWhat great news! So chuffed for you and the family and beautiful Nugget! xx
That's so amazing to read! What's the dose of cystease please? I'm going to order some for nugget she's also on a low dose of metacamWhat great news. I am so pleased for both you and Nugget.
A similar thing happened with our piggy Mavis (the one in my photo). Our vet was convinced (after an ultrasound) that she had a tumour in her bladder and sent her home with palliative care. As recommended by many people on the forum we started to give her Cystease (as well as her prescribed meds). At her 3 month check-up (which i think the vet was surprised she had made it too) they did another scan and no sign of any tumour. Mavis does have a thickened bladder wall and IC but with a very low daily dose of Metcam and the Cystease she is a happy pig. This was over two years ago and she is now almost 6. It just shows that vets don't always get their diagnosis right.
Thankyou so much nugget is on cat metacam so a very very low dose but it is working for her and that's what matters thankyou for the advice I will try thatI dissolve 1 capsule in a couple of mls of water and then give to her in two 1ml doses each day (morning and evening). Its best to mix this the day before you need it as it takes ages to dissolve properly. I make it up in one of those little jam jars you get from cafes/hotels. You can make up a couple of days worth in one jar leave it at room temperature for a few hours and then pop it into the fridge. Hope that Nugget continues to do well.
Mavis weighs 1.3kg and is on 0.2ml of (dog) Metcam twice daily. The vet suggested we stop giving her the Metacam but within two weeks she was squeaking when urinating and had blood in her urine again. So this dose works for her and she is happy, which is the most important thing.
