I am so sorry to hear you have to make such a difficult decision. My girl poppy was diagnosed with a stone in October. She was in a lot of pain. Passing lots of blood and loosing weight. I was told surgery was the only option for her as the stone was so big and they were worried about it getting stuck in her urethra. She had a CT scan which showed a small ovarian cyst. The initial vet we saw told us a spay would be good at the same time. After going to another exotic vets for a second opinion we decided not to spay at the same time. He told us she would either need one big wound to remove the uterus and ovaries too. Or end up with 3 wounds to remove just the ovaries via the flank approach and then the stone surgery on her tummy. We chose not to spay her as the cyst was so small and was an incidental finding. She recovered well from surgery but still has bladder issues. If your vet isn’t very experienced with guinea pigs you are well within your right to find somewhere else to do the surgery. I wish you lots of luck. It’s not an easy decision. But I suppose for us because poppy was so ill and the stone was so large (and spiky
) we weren’t left with any other choice than to do surgery. Did they say what reproductive issue she had? Or whether there was any way she could pass the stone on her own if it’s small enough?
