I came back off holiday at the weekend. We weighed the piggies Monday and noticed that Peggy had lost 80g and was a little quieter than usual. So off to the vet on Tuesday. Nothing obvious found but possibly her arthritis is getting worse (she is 7 years old). So Metacam increased to 3x day for 10 days and Cerenia added to her other meds. Hopefully this will help. If not it's X-ray and blood tests next.

Today I noticed my skinny piggy Dora (5.5 years) was squeaking when she passed urine
I got her out of the cage and the area around her bottom is swollen. Thankfully so far no effect on her appetite. So emergency appointment with our vet. Currently in the waiting room.

I just can't believe I am back here again so soon. I'm starting to think I must be doing something wrong. We have lost 3 of our original 7 piggies this year so far and now have two more that are poorly.

Oh no. I’m so sorry. I hope it’s something easily sorted. You haven’t done anything wrong. It’s just life with piggies. ❤️

I am very sorry to hear this, how stressful for you.

There is certainly not anything wrong on your part, the care and love for your animals comes across so clearly, even from this post, let alone all the work and care you have put into your pigs over the years.
If anything the fact your worrying about doing something wrong shows how much you are doing right.

My thoughts are with you and I hope everything is well with Dora and Peggy x

I hope Peggy continues to improve and that treatment can help lovely Dora ❤️
You haven’t done anything wrong - sometimes things just happen - both girls are getting on in age 🥰

Sending you hugs. I'm so sorry you are having a hard time with your piggies at the moment. It's nothing you are doing wrong, unfortunately life with piggies goes this way.
Sending healing vibes to Dora and I hope Peggy picks up again soon.

I am very sorry that you have two more poorly piggies and I hope they both feel better soon.

It’s certainly nothing you are doing wrong. Your piggies couldn’t have asked for a better home. It’s just sheer bad luck (((hugs))) xx

I hope Dora feels better soon, it is definitely just bad luck and all piggies like us humans have different immune systems. I have had a similar run this year and my vet always tells me it’s just bad luck xx

The vet has given Dora antibiotics for 10 days. They are not sure exactly what the problem is, she has some tenderness around her bladder but her urine looks ok. Possibly an infection or IC brought on by the stress of boarding and also having a new cage mate. Hopefully the ABs will work, if not it will be an ultrasound next to check for sludge/stones. We have also started her on Cystease. She is fine in herself, no weight loss or change in appetite. So fingers crossed that this clears up.

Sending you a lot of love and strength Yvonne, you and your piggies are certainly having a tough time of it right now

Oh no! I’m so sorry Yvonne, sending big hugs to you and Allan  You are not in any way doing anything wrong. It’s just a case of bad luck and timing. I felt the same with Bill and Ted, two brothers with wonky teeth, what on earth was I doing wrong? Sometimes one illness seems to follow another, hope you get some relief soon. 🤞 both Peggy‘s and Dora‘s health problems are treated easily, so sorry 😞

I am so sorry you are going through a hard time with your piggies. It can easily feel like we are doing something wrong when one thing comes after another, when in reality you are just being an excellent and observant piggy mum. Hopefully Dora will make a speedy recovery, it does sound likely that it is stress related. And I hope Peggy's increased meds do the trick too x

I'm worried about Peggy as she is no better today, in fact she is a little bit worse. I've stepped in with syringe feeding morning and evening as she isn't eating very much. If there is no improvement by tomorrow i will take her back to the vets.

Oh Yvonne, what a rotten time you are having. So sorry that 2 of your girls are poorly. You are such a devoted slave - it’s absolutely nothing that you are doing wrong. Just a run of bad luck. Hoping that Peggy perks up a little for you. I know it’s such a worry.

What a rotten time you're having, but absolutely nothing you're doing wrong! Sadly it goes like that! Sometimes we can go months without any issues and then within days have lots of poorly piggies. I remember once saying to the staff at the vets, as I left, 'I'm not here at all next week'. I should've kept quiet! I was on the phone at 8 am on the Monday for an emergency appointment and was then there every single day that week!

I hope things start to look up very soon xx Hugs xx

I'm so sorry I missed this this morning Yvonne, you really can't catch a break with this stuff right now :( Maybe Dora's just channelling that Skinny logic: be as dramatic as possible about everything possible - here's hoping she and Peggy are feeling better soon.

Sending hugs and healing vibes to you and your piggies. Its so stressful having poorly piggies but I hope for positive outcomes soon ❤️

Oh Yvonne such bad luck, I feel for you, I think any of us who’ve had guineas for the length of time we have, then we get these groupings of illness. It doesn’t matter how clean everything is or how much care you give, ultimately it will always come at the wrong time.
Massive hugs as always, chin up, I know you’ll do your best for them in every way.

I'm sorry you are going through this.its nothing you have done.its just bad luck and timing.i hope all the meds improve both piggies, what a worry.xx

Peggy is much the same, very quiet and not really moving around. She ate all her veggies (I separated her from the youngsters) and a bit of grass. No further weight loss. I topped her up with syringe feed. I rang the vet and they said to see how she is over the weekend, to give the meds more time to work. They are open tomorrow and have an on call exotics vet if she deteriorates.

Dora seems unaware she is unwell, except for the squeaking when urinating. She is eating normally and also finished off the leftover critical care.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, I have found this week a real struggle.xx
