A lot of scratching

I’m pleased they found something. At least you definitely know you are treating them for the right thing.

Thank you I feel rubbish so worried they are crawling round my house in my bed my hair 😢😰😩 my head is itchy now 🥺❤️

Thank you guys can I ask what your opinions are on routinely treating the pigs from now on I could be wrong but I was only charged £12 for Zeno 450 6 pippets today! Which was a massive relief given the price I thought I would need to pay I’m hoping price was right they only had one box left so hoping they get more in x

I genuinely feel like I can’t cuddle my girls again without wrapping them in a big blanket I’m thinking skinny pigs don’t have issues with these kind of mites just out curiosity and thanks so much again this is a wonderful forum which huge support actually helping so many people and thier piggy’s 🙏🙏🙏❤️

No to routinely treating. It is unnecessary and risks resistance forming.

Whatever type of mites or lice the xeno-450 will sort it. Are you treating all the pigs at the same time? Or roughly the same time like within a day or two? We try and treat everyone together.

If you're a lady in your middle years (like many of us!) you might also also be contending with hormonal anxiety and genuine random itching which can happen as oestrogen levels drop (I have to take antihistamine occasionally). It's very easy to get preoccupied with these things. The first time my kids got nits I thought I'd never stop combing them! Trust the treatment - correctly applied it's very effective ☺️

Oh you would have to mention nits! I’m scratching my head now 😂

Hi guys sorry to ask another question 🙃 I’m just wondering exactly how many days after first Zeno 450 treatment are you 1. Doing a full cage clean? And 2. Retreating piggy’s?

I’m trying not to worry too much but still am about spores and having taken them from our feet upstairs into our beds etc…I think my f10 won’t be here for another week… is there any other disinfectant I can use in the mean time to put my mind at ease? Many thanks everyone x

1. Cleaning a couple of days after the each treatment is fine

2.
You need to give each piggy their first treatment now.
then in two weeks time, you need to give each piggy their second treatment
then two weeks after that you need to give each piggy their third treatment.
At that point, all piggies have had their full course of three treatments each (which will take six weeks for you to complete) and that should be the end of it.

how many pipettes have you been told give each piggy at each treatment? (if you’ve got 6 pipettes then it doesn’t seem like you would have enough to me?)

You aren’t dealing with spores. You are dealing with haymites which will not survive anywhere other than on your piggies. (Spores are fungal infections which is not what your piggies have).
If by any chance any mites have made it elsewhere around your house, they will simply die because they don’t have a food source. You really don’t need to worry about them being anywhere else in your house

Without F10, then just use a normal cage cleaner in the mean time. It isn’t as effective but it’ll do for now.

Thank you so much piggies&buns as far as I have worked out we used a total of 3 450 pippets for thier first treatment I just hope it went on ok last time they looked a lot oiler on their coats I’m just hoping it will be ok felt like there wasn’t much on them so you say exactly 14 days for next treatment 13 days to go from today… big cage clean a couple of days after treatment with usual weekly cage in between thank you so much for everything I really mean it ❤️❤️❤️

Yes, 14 days.
Keep us posted on how it goes
Happy to help

The reason they say two weeks is because it takes about three weeks for a hatched egg to reach breeding maturity. So the idea is that any eggs will have hatched and the mites will be growing but they'll be killed before they can breed and lay eggs themselves. I'm just adding this for when your 2 weeks mark approaches and you're thinking how tight the timings have to be! It'll all be fine - try and relax 😉

Thank you so much I have been at the cage for bluddy hours and hours cleaning washing I combed and trimmed the girls hair lastnight fresh liner today just wondering if there’s any more tips should I be combing them everyday to remove what eggs/ I can? (Apologies for the swear) many thanks x

Combing was a bit crap lots of eggs trapped couldn’t get them off not like I can coat the girls in conditioner like my kids when we got nits 😰 x

Seriously - don't fret. If it's empty egg cases it doesn't matter. If they're going to hatch you'll get them next time around. The pigs will groom them out themselves or they'll just fall off. This is if it's lice... I'm not sure you can actually see mite egg cases as you can't usually see mites! If you're seeing little black dots you might just be looking at the excrement - or even just bits of hay dust.

Mine don't usually like being combed at all so I suspect you're not making any friends there... I wouldn't be combing as no more eggs will be being laid - the ivermectin will have killed off anything living!

The black specks are indeed the egg casings.
The mites themselves are not visible, but the egg casings definitely are.

Hi guys just wondering is it normal for guineas to still be scratching after 2 treatments of Zeno 😰? Many thanks

It can take between 2-3 treatments depending on how bad mites infestation is, ring vets for advice good luck 🤞

Second treatment was not Saturday just passed but the Saturday before… I’m concerned they are still at large

I’ve had a look at my white haired piggy and there’s still plenty of black specs I swear one was moving I’m worried we won’t get rid of them now and I’m not sure how much I can keep treating them for it I feel like the vet doesn’t seem to help much I’m still looking for another

Have you been able to try to brush any of them out?
I think all you can do is see a different vet when you find one. They can check you had been told to give the right amount of pipettes.
Remind me, were they all given the Xeno 450 or were some of them being given the 50 in the end?

So they all had the 450 now I’m worried I maybe mucked it up it’s very hard to know how much is one drop I have combed them in the beginning but I didn’t think it was helping much and they hated it!

now I’m thinking will I just shave them all like skinny pigs but that’s cruel I just think right no hair nothing to hold on too you ! I just didn’t expect to still be seeing these specs (eggs) after 2 treatments and she was scratching a lot they all have. All I can do is call the vet after the 3rd treatment if there’s still an issue but I’m not sure how long I would wait after the third it’s just not the same anymore limited holding and cuddles because of fear of these mites getting on to our hair or body’s this sucks!

I don’t suppose anyone on here has experienced 3 treatments of Zeno 450 and it failed or anyone that has had to repeat Zeno more than 3 times looks like this is obviously been going on a while I wish I had seen it sooner I struggle to clean the cage I’m so paranoid about the carpet my clothes hair because I’m so close hair dying around from sweeping thanks very much for your replies really appreciate it x

So as we have mentioned on your other thread, the mites will not be in your hair, carpets, clothes etc. They only want the piggies, nothing else.

I would do the third treatment and if you are still worried, book an appointment for the week after and have them checked to make sure there aren’t any live mites. If you can brush them and remove the egg casings, then that would be a good idea.

When I’ve used Xeno, three treatments has been enough.

Ive now merged the new posts back into your previous thread to keep it all together.
