A Big Adventure

It’s raining and shows no sign of stopping 🥲
Went to Te Puia, a Māori site. Learnt lots, saw mud pools, geysers and……….kiwis 🥰
They have a kiwi conservation centre there as part of the National programme to restore kiwi numbers.
We weren’t allowed to take photos but it was magical seeing them.

Be grateful that the photos don’t include the smell!

Very early start tomorrow as we fly to Christchurch to begin the South Island part of the tour.
Very excited that we’re meeting up with my sister for an evening meal tomorrow.
She lives in Christchurch and we haven’t seen each other for about 7 years.
We’re spending a few days with her at the end of the tour before flying home.

Looks like you are having a wonderful time. How lovely you are seeing your sister. ❤️

A couple of long days.
Yesterday we travelled from Rotorua to Auckland and then flew to Christchurch.
We took the rain with us !
We had a lovely evening with my sister who I haven’t seen since 2016.
Another early start this morning and a truly wonderful day.
We caught the 8:15 TransAlpine train across towards the west coast of the South Island.
It was amazing, despite the rain for the first part of the journey.
Our coach picked us up at Arthur’s Pass and we continued the drive to Franz Josef Glacier. By this time the rain had stopped and the sun was shining.
The mountains and glacial valley scenery was awesome.
Glad tomorrow is a more leisurely day

Words like ‘awesome’ , ‘magnificent’, ‘spectacular’ really understate how wonderful today has been.
We went up the valley from the town of Franz Josef Glacier and then walked to 2 different viewpoints to see the glacier.
It’s frightening how far the glacier has retreated in the last 50 years.

This was such a lovely place to spend our wedding anniversary

Miserable start to the day as we started the drive to Queenstown, however the weather improved and we saw some amazing scenery as we drove through glacial valleys, wine country and fruit growing country.

Love that!

Looks like you are having a fabulous time. Wonderful photographs.xx

Glorious weather for our trip up to Skipper’s Canyon outside Queenstown. This was gold mining area and our driver / guide was so informative.
Single track road with space to pass and the most incredible views.
The road wound around the mountain with hairpin bends and sheer drops.
My nerves have had a good workout today but it was worth it.

I know roads like these. :yikes::vom:
Not my favorite way to go, but the views are often spectacular (sometimes just mountains and woodland and more mountains. I must confess that I don't like mountains that much though we have got more than enough of them in Austria).
