Would You Recommend Your Outdoor Hutch ?

Just to throw in - I know some rescues can recommend local hutch makers! Might be worth ringing round some local to you just to see. I got my second piggies from Wood Green in Huntingdon, Cambs and at the time (12years ago) they pointed me in the direction of someone. He made standard ones to sell at the shelter or took orders. I think you got good discounts if you rescued your Guineas from them and can't remember now how much it cost. Best hutch I've ever had though! Still at my parents house now and still useable!

They look lovely but at £200 and over are way out of price range

As an alternative have you thought of having them indoors just for this winter? That way you could make indoor accommodation more cheaply and not need the extras (hutch covers/ramp tunnels/snuggle safe heat pads/extra hay for warmth etc) so it would give you until next spring to save for a sturdy, well made outdoor hutch? I've seen people using puppy pens as piggy indoor housing and I've got one of those for around £30-40 before! Just thinking out of the box as I know it's probably not ideal but a cheaper option for now!

There's no way unfortunately, I have 2 kids and there's just no space at all to have the piggies inside at all.

maybe you could source someone to make a hutch.pets at home have 5 feet hutch going for 100 pounds,i used th cover for this and it lasted 3 years, maybe if you painted with bright shed paint and made a plastic front cover it would make it fun and durable.search ebay or gum tree for second hand hutches, give a good clean and paint?xx

Thank you, I am keeping an eye out for second hand ones too.

I'm tempted by this and getting rob to customise it adding ladders to make a three tier hutch and repairing the run?

Thank you for all your help, this is what we went for. It's coming tomorrow and we're going to swap the twisting locks for proper barrel locks. I was going to have the bedroom areas, then a snuggle area on the top with fleecy beds etc, food on the middle level and some chewy/play toys scattered around.

I ditched my hutch a couple of years ago, as I brought my piggies inside to a C&C cage (I found the cold winters and hot summers too stressful to deal with!). However, it was a really great hutch, and if you have outdoor pigs I would have definitely recommended it. The only problem is I can't be 100% certain which brand it was, but i'm fairly sure it was this:

Chartwell Double Tongue and Groove Rabbit and Guinea Pig Hutch (1.54m x 0.65m) – Next Day Delivery Chartwell Double Tongue and Groove Rabbit and Guinea Pig Hutch (1.54m x 0.65m) from WorldStores: Everything For The Home

It was a 5ft long double hutch,so plenty of space. We did make some modifications to it as we ended up having piggies that didn't get on, so had to separate floors and build sleeping boxes and extra bits, but the hutch itself seemed good and sturdy. We purchased a hutch cover for the rain, and brought it into a lit & heated shed and covered with duvets in winter. We had a separate run so would transfer them out to that every day (I didn't have a hutch with an attached run, as I needed to be able to move the hutch to the shed in the winter).

Although- looking at some of the triple hutches above- they look great!
