Wordle - what is it?

Have just heard that the New York Times has bought Wordle and we may have to pay for it.:( If so, does anyone else know of any other word games we can all play?
 
I saw this too, just really sad. I'm sure there will be knock off ones. I believe it will still be free to play for a bit longer.

Saw this as well and was hoping it wasn’t real, it’s such a simple but lovely thing to look forward to every day… apparently a lot of their other games have a paywall :( it’s a shame

And I finally really got into it too.
It' such a shame, but I guess people have to make a living.

I think what appeals most to me about it, is that I can only do 1 a day.
I enjoy it but don't waste hours on it.
 
I think I figured out why I am a bit upset about Wordle being sold and a charge to play soon. It's really fun playing with everyone here since the answer is the same for all of us. And soon that will be gone, but I will enjoy free Wordle while it lasts with all of you.
