If you approach with the dropper from behind the eye, piggies have a bit of a blind spot that can make it easier to get the drop in before they see it.
That’s great advice, thanks. We’ll try that next time, I seem to be wasting quite a bit down her face. As soon as she is on my knee she shuts her eye, I’ve watched her in the cage and the eye is almost fully openIf you approach with the dropper from behind the eye, piggies have a bit of a blind spot that can make it easier to get the drop in before they see it.
Absolutely! Wish I could have some
I know that syndrome well. I’m like a stealth ninja with eye drops. Sit them either on my lap facing forward, and come from behind the affected eye with the eye drops. Or I get them across my chest with the affected eye nearer to me and hold the affected eye open with my left hand and then produce the drops from behind them using my right hand. It usually works. But the drops do always seem to roll across the eyeball and then run off (unless they are the gel type ones). As long as you get some onto the eyeball, that will be fine. I just then gently manually close their eyelids to ensure it gets spread across the cornea. Hope that helps. Molly the vet taught me that tip many years ago and it has stood me in good stead over the years. That’s great advice, thanks. We’ll try that next time, I seem to be wasting quite a bit down her face. I’ll try the chest one next, she’s a “wily old bird” and her fur is very waterproof. She’s still shutting her eye as soon as I get her out of the cage you have to laugh, she really is a clever one!I know that syndrome well. I’m like a stealth ninja with eye drops. Aw thanks Claire it is looking so much better now. I’ll keep doing the drops until Friday lunchtime then, thanks for the adviceAw good girl Ginger. Your eye is looking so much better. I’ve always given eye drops for about a week for hay poke x
You’re well off piggie! Be thankful your slave loves you enough to put up with your shenanigans!Look at me, I’m feeling so much better now.
Can someone tell slave when she can stop giving these horrid eye drops as the vet forgot to tell her? I’ve said I’ll tolerate it until Thursday evening and that’s it! I’ve suffered it then for about a week and that’s enough for any pig, slave just doesn’t know when to stop

Gosh that’s amazing! He was so lucky to heal so well with no I’ll effects. The thought of it makes me cringe. I felt quite queasy when I looked at Ginger’s eye after the green dye had been put in at the vets, it was a right messIts amazing how quickly eyes can heal. we dont think of them that way but they're part of the body like anything else...
Crazy story about my cousin *anything eyeball related can be gross. you've been warned*
my cousin used to go sledding in the winter on a hill by his house as a kid. lots of kids did. with the speed you got kids often sleded into this guys property and he hated it so one day he just put up spiked wire fence. that night it snowed covering the fence... my cousin and his brother went down the hill. first cousin hit the wire with his back his brother wasn't so lucky and a piece cut his actual eyeball..... It healed fine. it didn't tear, straight thin slice and he was very lucky. basic eye drops and let it heal over time. didn't even affect his vision. even while it was cut....
Oh poor Orca was dedicated Yes, I hope we don’t get anymore, never had before with haypoke ever. I’ll hang 9neone the meds just in case for a few weeks then just incase as we will be away house sitting for a rabbit and four hens plus our piggies thanks for the info 9n the meds Andrea xGlad Ginger is all better now Orca was the Queen of hay pokes... She had an open ended prescription for Tiacil! Now that was dedication to the cause!
Now, now you lovely lot... No more haypokes
(eye drops will last longer than the week in the fridge though... My vet said they're OK to use for a few months afterwards.. Try not to touch the eye or coat with the nozzle though, bacteria won't get on it then )
Luv to all xx
yeah he says it didn't even hurt, but kinda makes sense. Most the nerves would be around the socket not actually in the eye its self.Gosh that’s amazing!
