Poor Ginger has managed get hay poke overnight, I managed to pull a strand of hay out, but hen 30 minutes found another small piece under her eye lid. We were lucky to get a vet appointment this morning and she has an ulcer but the vet says it’s not deep and we’ve caught it quickly so fingers crossed it will heal up soon. We’ve been given Chloramphenicol eye drops Antibiotics and Remend Corneal repair Gel, plus metacam
She is look a bit sorry for herself but it hasn’t dampened her appetite

Believe it or not I have never had a hay poke ever in all the years of keeping guinea pigs. I haven’t a clue what to look out for so I will probably post the odd photo of her over the next week. I don’t have to go back for a check up provided it’s healed, so I’ll be looking for some reassurance 😊

Sending lots of hugs and healing vibes to my gorgeous Ginger ❤️ Sure she’ll be all healed in no time! x

Aww poor ginger, we have had 4 hay pokes (2 each) they do heal very quickly they stop squinting after a few days of drops!

Aw, that’s good to know, I keep thinking has she still got hay in there, as I managed to get two pieces out. the vet did check and couldn’t see any more but she is very squinty atm

Poor Ginger. Hopefully her eye is looking better soon.

Poor Ginger. Good to hear that her eye is more open. It makes it easier to get the drops in.

All the best! Just continue to get the drops in; it sounds rather like a surface abrasion than an eye perforation and should heal pretty straight forward without problems and any further measures.

I did get some funny looks at the vets one year when 8 different piggies of mine came down with hay pokes. I had a few that could not wait until I'd refilled the trays and would jump straight into the way...

Hope Ginger's haypoke clears up quickly. Hope she's getting extra treats as she's having so many eyedrops.

Poor Ginger pig. Glad to hear that your eye is a little better today. Enjoy the extra treats.❤️

Ginger says Thank you all so much for your kind well wishes, I’m feeling a little better and getting some yummy treats. I enjoyed a few strawberry tops this morning although I had to share them with Posh. the metacam is all mine though yum yum 😐
Ah the blessed Metacam! Wherever would we be without it!?

Thanks all, we have just been out around the village lanes to get some grass and forage for them x
