I have three piggies that live indoors. My friend recently got a hamster and she is going on holiday next month. I said I would look after her hammy while she goes away as she always used to do it for my piggies. She had a key to the house and would come and feed them and play with them for multiple hours each day as their c&c cage is huge and I didn't want to stress the piggies. Her hamster is happy to me moved location and it doesn't bother him so he is coming to my house rather than me travelling to hers everyday. We have room and stuff so there should be no problem but I was just wondering if having another rodent's presence in the room would stress them out or if they would be ok xx

@helen105281 i can't imagine having them in the same room would cause an issue. Make sure they do not meet under any circumstance.

Just remember to wash their smell off your hands before going from one animal to the next! Your piggies might notice the strange scent from the hamster! Hamster are renowned for having a nibble on your fingers if they smell anything they don't recognise such as the smell of your wee piggies!

Thank you so much! I will most likely not be handling the hamster as he is very quick and doesn't stay still and I don't want to be responsible for anything bad happening. I will of course clean it out and feed him but other than that I won't do too much interacting as hamsters aren't pets that enjoy that anyways xx

When I had new hamsters or was hamster sitting friend's hammies, I used to rub my hands in the sawdust or whatever substrate was used to get their smell on my hands before handling them. This seemed to stress them less as I was seen as a friendly person as I smelt OK. Hamsters have very poor eyesight to go alot on scent.

My GP Baby seems to have taken a dislike to my Hamster Daenerys but is fine with Igor?

Only when I got Daenerys did Baby start rumble strutting at her and teeth chattering when Daenerys was drinking water,
I think that's more Baby being grumpy rather then being stressed out by her though! :)
She does make quite a racket when she's drinking! :)

Our Russian hammy Sir Robwig Huffleham loves the guineas, and they love him too! Cuddles was sitting on the settee with me and Sir Robwig waddled across the settee and began to carefully groom her  It was very sweet, he loved her very much.

Thanks to all above for your knowledgeable answers x

I used to keep mine in the same room with no issues.

We have a two guinea pigs and a hamster... they are pretty clueless about each others' presence, even in the same room. I really don't think it will be a problem. I would just wash my hands going from animal to animal to avoid passing any potential illnesses.
