I've just had this with my fleece (bought by the metre off ebay for sewing fitted liners, pretty good quality).
They had a normal 30-degree detergent wash, no joy.
Normal 60-degree detergent wash, no joy.
As above, but with an extra rinse into which I added white vinegar. Better...
One more 60-degree wash, and we're wicking!
Mine were always air- or line-dried between washings as I don't have a tumble dryer. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the vinegar rinse really helped start to break it in, so if you have the same problem again, I'd try that. inbreeding
