One of my pigs is 8 years old. It sounds bad but I'm trying to guess when she's gonna go.. No I don't want her to go, I love her so much. Just when we thought it could be any day, she just gets more and more energetic and playful and full of life and quite honestly I'm really surprised because she's in old granny. She is always so happy for pats (purrs like crazy every single day, happy girl). U can see that she's older looking at her, but she's in good health still and is just so darn happy all the time! So I ask u guys, what's the longest you've ever had a piggy live and do you think it's unusual she's still do spritely at 8 years old. I was kinda expecting her to start slowing down haha. I'll see if I can find a photo

Gosh she looks great! Hope you don,t mind me asking, what exactly do you feed her?

Both my piggies get jack rabbit pellets in the morning (I'm still experimenting with how much they will actually eat without wasting it but seems to be about a 1/4 cup between the two of them. They get unlimited oaten bale hay, and at night night they get veggies which always includes capsicum for vitamin c and some other stuff they like such as rocket, cucumber (not too much) sometimes a bit of carrot, sometimes cos lettuce. They occasionally get treats but not crazy often as they enjoy their veggies more than fruits. Hope this helps? I'm a believer of finding what works for your piggies.. Yes there is guidelines, but u know them best

Oh she’s beautiful. The longest I’ve ever had a guinea pig live for is 6 and a half

Thank you! She is beautiful, inside and out, she is such a sweetheart. 6 and a half isn't bad at all! One of my piggies passed at around that age but also had cancer, I honestly am surprised she lasted that long.

It's nice to see a happy elderly surrounded by buddies !

I recalculated... My sow Ariane lived almost 9 years and it looked like she was healthy until the end though she was asking for more human attention after her widowing. Her partner Laïka reached 8 and lost weight before the end, she had a kyst next to the foreleg for a few years.
At the time, we didn't know much about piggies so their daily bowl was the cavia-mix (with cereals), hay, some veggies and hard bread, and in summer they could eat grass outside in a baby park. Their cage was way too small and they never really dared going too far from it, maybe because of the cat's smell. And they were overweight. Really nice buddies, I could watch a whole episode of pokemons with one on my lap. I'll get photos next time I see my parents :)

Wowsa 9 is amazing! There's actually only Tilly and jazzy now. Snazzy passed away a while ago and anabel passed away recently at 6.5 years old.. I just posted the picture of all four anyway because it forever want my babies to be seen and remembered even though they have crossed the rainbow bridge. I think that education and taking care of guineqpigs has been way better these last few years, and the longer we own pigs and talk to another people who own pigs and educate ourselves the more we learn.

The oldest I've ever had was only 5. We seem to adopt piggies with health conditions. We had one with a long term dental issues, one had heart condition along with kidney and bladder stones, one that had complications with neutering, one had long term neck abscesses and unknown health issues that made her lose weight, one had abscess, dental issues and unknown heart problem, one with cystitis, mouth ulcers and thrush. Hopefully our current 3 would at least made it to 6! They are all currently below 2 yrs old so I'm crossing all my fingers! 🤞🤞

Oh that's unlucky! But then again, these piggies with health condition, it's always nice when they go to someone that loves them regardless and knows how to deal with it then say w young child or something. What are your piggies names? Have u got a photo? I hope everything goes well with them too

My eldest has been just short of 9, that was many years ago when guinea pigs seem to have been better bred than they are now. The eldest I have at the moment is 5.5. Your girl is gorgeous.

It’s hard to tell how old they were because all my piggies have been rescues. I think roughly tho the longest was about 6-7 years

Must of taken good care of her! I always wondered about how breeding would change life expectancy based on if they were mixing breeds. Cos that can't always be a good thing. And thank you, she is a beautiful bull of fluff haha

7 is my oldest, followed by 6.

My 7 year old got there plain sailing with full health, never a vet visit.

My 6 year old was a battle from age 2 to 6. But lived pain free through most of it.

I've got a sow on 4 years old now and a boar on 2 years old.

My current piggies are Sierra (named after the Sierra Nevada), Rocky (named after Red Rock Canyon National Park in Nevada), and Vegas (named after Las Vegas).

Here is their dedicated thread. Pigging Out

I also have a photo there of my past piggies. 😊
