Well, as planned - Friday nite, totally hammered with a take away. I decided it would be a good idea (Once I was drunk!) to put some dance music on downstairs and 'try' to dance seductively to my other half lol - unfortunately it ended up with me falling over on the floor laughing for about 20 minutes! hehehe

Saturday - we went out for a meal for my brothers birthday - It was very nice - and had a few tipples as well ;D - can anyone spot the girl who has just come off tablets and can drink again? hehe

Sunday - we did nothing at all - apart from appear from the house at about 6pm to go and find something to eat! haha

Monday - well - here I am - at work :(

All good things have to end though eh?

Hope you all had ace weekends! xx

I saw Borat which I thought was hilarious ;D

Then had dinner in town with Andy.

Housework on Saturday along with the most HIDEOUS PMT. (Crying, lethargic, aggressive etc)
Andy was so concerned that he tried to take me to the pet shop to get me a piggy to make me happy as he hates to see me upset
I must say I was mightily tempted but will give it another week

SCD on Sat night was brilliant. I tried a new recipe for Chicken that Andy loved and we settled in to watch a DVD
Andy chose Sin City and I lasted about 30 minutes before deciding it was too gory and strange for me.

Yesterday I went shopping in Kingston. Again, Andy took me to the pet shop but there were no piggers. Just a rabbit.
I took that as a good sign.

If there was a guinea show near me I'd definitely want to go - just out of interest really. Where else can you go except your petshop to see other guineas. But, sorry about this - when I hear the word 'breeder' I see a picture of breeding hutches in my mind. Rows and rows of small hutches with no stimulation for the guineas. I appreciate that a lot of people, especially people on this forum, don't keep them like that - but a hell of a lot do!

What sort of stimulation do you mean exactly? I've kept guineas for 35 years and never ever known them to play with the strange 'toys' available from pet shops. The only playing my piggers actually enjoy is when they get a big pile of fresh hay and they popcorn in and around it .... and having been a 'breeder' in the past, I know that I never excluded this sort of play. Most breeders don't use the tiny cages you mention - a few do, that I can't deny, but most certainly don't.
Stimulation - boxes to hides in, loads of space to run in, different sleeping areas to choose from, going out on the grass, tubes to run through - anything that provides something to explore. I change the layout and stuff for my guineas regularly and they love it. I've never bought a guinea 'toy' in my life. I've read post after post on this forum about bad breeders who supply petshops and I know for a fact they are kept in small breeder hutches. As I said, I wouldn't expect it from people on this forum. When someone is seeking to produce a 'perfect' guinea to a certain standard, it normally takes a lot of breeding to get to that stage. I'm concerned about the surplus because most people couldn't afford to keep them all. I'm not slagging off all breeders, but I don't like the standard breeder set-up.

Jilly - I agree with everything you say, and my pigs do get boxes / tubes etc, and they love those hideys (can't remember what they are called, they are made of logs on wire that can be bent to a U shape for them to use as beds). The pigs like to sit on top of them.

Of course I realise there are bad - well really awful - breeders out there. I used to do rescue and have seen much of it. But most people who show are not like that ... just a very small minority are.

I know what you mean - sticky things, mine like those.

I'm glad I've got the wrong impression and it's not as bad as I thought. I suppose it's like loads of things, it's always the minority that completely spoil everything for other people.

We've just had a long weekend, Melbourne Cup (horse race).
Duke loves it when i clean out his cage area as he gets to explore the workshop, must have lots of boxes for him to hide and run around, since doing this he's become more animated on the weekly clean out time :o
Wish i'd realised all this earlier, it's very cute to watch him discovering a new box that i put down or change the position half way through cleaning, he looks and sniffs carefully and then happily squeeks and dives through or around :-*

You've hit the nail right on the head there Jilly. People like this usually get the cold shoulder from other exhibitors at the shows anyway :)
